Duties & Responsibilities: The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of our hospitals and community-based services behavioral health services; Developmental Disabilities; Safety and Risk Management; Internal Audits and Investigations; Certification and Policy and Planning for the State of Georgia. The current structure includes seven (7) hospitals and five (5) Regions with approximately 8,000 employees and a $700 million budget. Additionally, the COO carries responsibility for integrating the strategic plan of the organization with the operations.

The COO provides management oversight for the development of high quality, cost effective and integrated programs within the hospitals and regions. He/she will exercise management responsibility over the hospitals and regions ensuring efficient services that are designed to meet the needs of consumers, physicians, the public and staff. This will either be done directly, or through delegation of responsibility to the management staff.

Other responsibilities include developing and fostering effective collaboration between divisions, medical staff leadership, and other affiliated services (inside and outside of the department) to ensure an integrated approach to providing services, and fulfilling the departments goals and objectives; as well as communicating key information to the stakeholders of these service areas with respect to care, cost management, and customer-focused services.

This position requires significant leadership skills and ability. The COO will be accountable for the overall success of operations of the department and will lead and oversee the development of operating and strategic plans. Attention is to be given to systems, program development, quality, fiscal management, compliance and clinical management measures, physician relationships, outreach strategies, work culture enhancement and internal communication and consensus-building.


Minimum Training & Experience: Our ideal candidate will have a Master's Degree in a Business, Public Administration or a related field AND ten (10) years of executive-level experience in a health, human services or business field including management of large, complex organizations.


Preferred Qualifications: In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, candidates should have experience in the following areas:

• Developing and administering operational and administrative policies, standards and practices.
• Developing effective collaboration with different stakeholders.
• Analyzing and recommending changes in organizational systems, policies and procedures
and ensuring their implementation.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement an organizational vision.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve organizational objectives by creatively managing and motivating staff.
• Demonstrated knowledge and ability in planning, prioritizing, and coordinating large, complex programs.
• Demonstrated ability to utilize human, financial, material and information resources in a manner that instills public trust and accomplishes the organization’s mission, and to take advantage of new technologies to enhance the effectiveness.
