Position Summary:

Our Client is currently seeking a Chief Product Line Engineer to participate in the development of permanent magnet motors and generators for industrial markets and US Naval applications. This Chief Product Line Engineer is a dual reporting position: solid line to the Director of Engineering and dotted line to the Electric Machines Product Line Leader.

The purpose of this position is to ensure a consistent technical approach throughout the Electric Machines Product Line, manage technical risk associated with the Product Line, and advance the business interests of the Product Line through technology advancement and expert technical representation to the Product Line customers, associated markets, and technical communities

The candidate must have a successful track record of applying engineering knowledge to design, develop, and follow through manufacture permanent magnet motors and generators. The ideal candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: motor-drive application engineering and system integration, electric machine electromagnetic design, electric machine thermal design, electric machine mechanical design, and electric machine manufacture and qualification testing. Experience with structural dynamic design and/or analysis (shock and structure borne noise) would be considered an extra advantage.

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities of the Chief Product Line Engineer include the following:

1. Monitoring and assessing market landscape: competitors, products, technology (what has been done, what is being done, what can be done)


2. Development of Product Roadmaps, Technology Roadmaps, and IRAD plans with the Product Line Leader, Director of Business Development, and Director of Engineering.


3. Development of consistent Product Line design approaches.


4. Oversight and approval of proposal and program technical approaches, including system-level architecture.


5. Approval of program technical risk management plans.


6. Design Assurance throughout program execution.


7. Primary Product Line external technical interface with customers, other units, vendors, industry, and academia.


8. Protection of Intellectual Property through appropriate safeguards (i.e. patents, trade secrets, copyright).


9. Representation of capabilities to broader external parties through the development of papers and participation in industry/technical conferences.


10. Development of appropriate engineering tools and design practices.


11. Development of engineering staff talent through mentoring and training.


12. Recommendations on appropriate technology acquisitions.

The Chief Product Line Engineer position is not exclusive of other roles within the company. For instance, there will be occasions where the Chief Product Line Engineer is asked to perform the role of a project Lead Engineer or Individual Contributor on select activities.

Minimum Requirements:

M.S. Electric Power Engineering or equivalent

15 years relevant experience

U.S. Citizen

Desired:

Ph.D. Electric Power Engineering or equivalent
