Lead Civil Construction Manager - Power/Utilities

About the Job

The New Energy Alliance (NEA) is a joint venture between Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc. and M.J. Electric, LLC, a Quanta Services company to support the delivery of National Grid’s U.S. electricity capital investment program in New England. The project is for the design and build of substations and transmission lines in the New England region.


 


Position Summary:


The Lead Civil Construction Manager provides oversight, coordination, management and technical expertise for all aspects of civil construction within our Substation and Transmission line projects.


Essential Duties:




  • Works with Construction Managers and customers assuring crews and contractors are working efficiently to meet contracting requirements, budgets, forecasts and schedules; 


  • Assemble and build a civil construction management team;


  • Develop method statements of all aspects of civil work to be performed;


  • Integrates safety into projects plans, establishes safety goals, reinforces safety policies, supports safety trainings and corrects unsafe conditions; 


  • Manages civil projects from inception to completion including substation and tower foundations;


  • Assists Construction Managers with project scope development and project authorizations;


  • Systematically and regularly appraises and evaluates progress against goals, timelines and objectives.  Provides assistance to Construction Managers to correct deficiencies in these areas;


  • Understands critical design requirements of projects and continuously monitors construction quality to ensure compliance with established tolerances;


  • Promotes & develops systems and processes to provide for proper accounting, reporting of projects costs, customer billing, scheduling material procurement, record keeping, and documentation budgeting by Project Managers;


  • Interfaces with key customers and ensures construction activities are communicated and understood;


  • Assists in hiring, orientation and career development of Civil Construction Managers;


  • Ensures key project input including environmental, regulatory and governmental relations, public relation and landowner concerns are addressed on construction projects throughout the region;


  • Assists in developing and tracking key performance metrics with achievement of established KPI’s;


  • Stays current on construction management trends and ensures personnel are informed of significant changes;


  • Monitors equipment type, purchases, usage, inspection, maintenance, and servicing;


  • Ensures projects we construct are to our customer’s specifications and standards;


  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.

 


Qualifications:


 


Required:


 




  • 15+ years of project management experience


  • Knowledge, interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements


  • Extensive civil construction experience including method statement development 

 


Preferred:


 




  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management (equivalent)


  • Prior experience with substation and t-line construction projects.


  • Extensive project management skills with a track record of achievement of complex projects.
