Claims Director - General Liability

Job Purpose/Role
Providing administrative direction by managing the staff and work of a Claims Unit or Regional LOB Claims Unit to ensure the following: customer satisfaction within service level agreement guidelines, quality of claims handling services and appropriate budget management.

Key Responsibilities
- Participating in the development and execution of the LOB or regional business strategy workflows and processes and defining the immediate and long-range staffing and service level requirements to meet business objectives
- Analyzing and reporting trends affecting production, staff and expenses; developing and implementing corrective actions to overcome unfavorable trends consistent with business strategy
- Implementing and executing against the technical/operations standards and strategy of each line of business
- Executing strategic initiatives, workflows and standards
- Building effective business relationships throughout claims segments and with underwriting partners and agents in order to obtain and share information across the segments
- Overall commitment to staff and talent management including workforce planning, goal setting, performance management, development and succession planning
- Guiding individual development to improve bench strength development
- Constantly recruiting for Fireman's Fund Insurance Company within the local marketplace

Key Requirements/Skills/Experience
- Minimum of 5 years Supervisory/Management experience
- Knowledge of commercial general liability coverage and claim handling principles
- Strong litigation handling background preferred
- Strong business acumen; understanding business and economic environment of the insurance industry
- Ability to manage multiple locations, multi-state exposure a plus
- Proven ability to motivate a staff to excellence to ensure it meets the competencies and skill requirements set by the technical line of business
- Demonstrated skill to identify alternate solutions to issues and derive logical solutions; establishing a work environment which encourages and rewards risk taking and creative thinking; leading by example and fostering change
- Strong interpersonal communication skills are a mandatory requirement
