Software Quality Tester Job Description

Genscape is seeking a Software Quality Tester with 1-3 years experience. The ideal candidate for this position must be able to come up to speed quickly on the Genscape architecture and business domain processes. The Software Quality Tester must be a self-motivated, a driven self-educator/learner on all Genscape applications and a highly motivated tester, able to work independently in a dynamic environment. Lastly, the Software Quality Tester must proactively and effectively communicate with the customers and IT peers to ensure the quality and timely delivery of testing results.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Work with a creative, energized team to build test solutions in support of business objectives

• Write test scripts to verify the implementation of business functional requirements and conduct unit tests during the project lifecycle.

• Thoroughly test software applications in a complex and integrated desktop and web application environment and then report the results of those tests to project stakeholders

• The Software Quality Tester will also be responsible for helping to establish test environments, completing a detailed discovery of all Genscape software applications, developing test scenarios, writing test plans and test cases, documenting defects, and communicating with development teams and user groups.

• Continually maintain test scripts to reflect product improvements and bug fixes

• The tester will be required to communicate testing status with IT management.

• Develop quality test plans/scripts that is easy to support and maintain

• Work with an IT project manager on all aspects of the software development life-cycle in terms of developing test plans/scripts when functional and tech specs are put together; conducting application testing during testing phase.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• A minimum of 1 year experience developing test scripts/test plans in a business environment.

• Must have an acute attention to detail with a focus on improving software quality

• A minimum of 1 year experience in writing, scripting and executing test cases, test plans and test scenarios using automated testing tools.

• Ability to work with several agile project teams at one time to provide testing of software components

• Some experience in analyzing and evaluating test results and in putting recommendations to improve the quality and performance of software applications using automated testing tools

• Help define and implement automated and manual testing standards and practices, which include verification, validation, testing and documentation

• Play an active role in pre-deployment and deployment testing activities

• Candidates should be very detail oriented and driven to complete the tasks at-hand.

• Able to develop test data, execute test scripts and analyze results for validity and clarity.

• Willingness and drive to learn new testing technologies and implement them as needed

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite of tools

• Experience working within a disciplined software testing tool

• Experience developing software applications

• Experience using Linux/Unix and Mac O/S in addition to Windows

• Building test environments, including configuring and installing appropriate software

• Translating user/market requirements into application specifications

• Carries out various methods of testing including automated, manual, and batch to ensure that all information systems products and services meet minimum company standards and end user requirements

• Must have experience with both web and non-web applications

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, Math, or testing certifications or equivalent job experience
