Clinical Laboratory Technician
Marin General Hospital, a not-for-profit facility, opened in May 1952. It is the largest acute care hospital in Marin County and is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Marin General Hospital is licensed for 235 acute care beds and works in close partnership with Novato Community Hospital to provide for the health care needs of 175,000 residents of Marin County. Marin General Hospital affiliated with Sutter Health in 1996. Recent additions include a new Cardiac Cath Lab (opened in November 2006), and the installation of a new $1.6 million CT Scanner.

Assists licensed personnel under direct and constant supervision of Clinical Lab Scientist in the pre-analytic and early stages of analytical testing as approved by California Business and Professional Code 1269.



               EDUCATION
 
High school diploma or equivalent significant post high school education with emphasis on life sciences (biology, chemistry and microbiology)
 
   EXPERIENCE
 
Experience in a clinical hospital laboratory required, including pre-analytical processing such as phlebotomy and specimen processing.  Two-year degree preferred with major in life sciences.  Experience preferred with hospital computer applications as well as office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio) Experience in preparing and maintaining equipment preferred.
 
   PREREQUISITE SKILLS
  
1.    Ability to work in teams in which all members are mutually accountable.
2.    Ability to work collaboratively with team members, hospital staff, patients, and physicians.
3.    Willingness and ability to be trained in more than one laboratory discipline.
4.    Capable of organizing multiple tasks, using time management skills and attention to detail.
5.    Basic computer knowledge with the ability to do data entry and retrieval.
6.    Knowledge of blood/body fluid precautions.
7.    Demonstrated verbal and written communication and computer skills.
7.    Ability to read, speak, write, understand and follow English verbal and written instructions.
8.    Ability to author and revise procedures and document methods.
9.    Knowledge of Six Sigma Lean Practices and demonstrated change/change management.
 
            LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION
 
1.      Current California license as a Phlebotomist required.  Limited phlebotomy license acceptable. A CLS license is acceptable.
2.      Possess BLS-Heartsaver Certificate within 90 days of hire and maintain certification as required by hospital policy.
3.      California state license as a Medical Laboratory Technician Preferred.
