Clinical Nurse Specialist, Pediatric Critical Care
Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, Houston, TX
Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital is the teaching hospital for pediatrics and obstetrics/gynecology programs at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. A recent expansion increased capacity to 240 beds. The facility is one of 11 hospitals in the Memorial Hermann system. The hospital is having dramatic growth, due to population growth in the area, planned program development, such as the cardiac program, and unanticipated growth due to hurricane damage causing facilities in Galveston to close.
Clinical Nurse Specialist, Pediatric Critical Care:
· Reports to Director of Nursing Practice and Innovation.
· Responsible for clinical education and advancement of nursing, concentrating efforts with staff at the bedside.
· Works primarily with staff in the 20-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, as well as a new planned 10-bed PICU, and also supports staff in the Intermediate Unit (IMU).
· Focus of the CNS is excellence in clinical practice by supporting and teaching staff.
· PICU is busy, with high intensity, including ECMO. Patient population includes: cardiac surgery, trauma, neurosurgery, plus medical diagnoses. The new PICU will focus on Trauma and Surgery.
· CNS collaborates with two Education Resource Specialists, with the Educators focusing on classes and educational programming, and the CNS with 1:1 education and clinical rounding with staff.
· Ideal candidate will have significant experience and competence in pediatric critical care nursing.
· At least two years of experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist is preferred.
· Clinical proficiency is needed.
· CNS will have good leadership skills, and will be an excellent collaborator.
· Will utilize evidence-based practice.
· Strong communication skills and educational effectiveness are necessary.
· Master of Science in Nursing is required, along with current/eligible Texas RN license.
