JOB SUMMARY
DEPARTMENT/UNIT SPECIFIC PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates competence in emergency services assessment by identifying normal level of function versus alterations from normal parameters.
Utilizes standards of emergency services nursing practice and the nursing process in daily practice.
Prioritizes within an emergency services environment involving high bed turnover.
Performs triage of all patients entering the emergency department to determine need for interventions based on changing conditions.
Coordinates the care of patient when multiple physicians are involved with patients.
Controls traffic in patient care area to facilitate privacy and yet provide compassionate and efficient care of patient.
Coordinates admissions of complex patients to units, i.e., critical care.
Plans for total care when patient resides in the ED for extended period waiting for bed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION/TRAINING (or equivalent)
Associate Degree/Diploma in Nursing
Bachelor Degree in Nursing preferred
Other: 10 CEUs per year upon hire with emphasis on stroke Annual National Institute of Health (NIH) stroke trainingIncident Command Modules 100 and 700 on-line education
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS (with minimum requirements indicated as appropriate)
CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES
Current licensure as R.N. in State of Missouri
Current BLS upon completion of orientation
Current ACLS or within 6 months of hire
Current Trauma Nurse Critical Care (TNCC) or within 2 years of hire
Haz Mat Hospital Operations within 1 year of hire
Emergency Nurse Pediatric Certification (ENPC) and/or PALS within 2 years of hire
Current NIH stroke certification
Incident Command Modules 100 and 700 certificate of completion
