Coastal/Marine Environmental Scientist

Tetra Tech EM Inc., a subsidiary of Tetra Tech, is currently seeking a Coastal/Marine Environmental Scientist to work in our Honolulu, HI office.
The selected candidate will be expected to research, write and review environmental/biological sections of compliance documents and technical reports as well as participate in field projects. Task-level management duties include application of technical knowledge, preparation and coordination of ecological studies and reports, and client communication. Assistance with proposals and development of marine environmental work prospects is also required.
Job Requirements:
The ideal candidate will perform high-level environmental tasks and participate in technical field efforts. Preferred applicant will be a technical generalist, but may specialize in one or several of the following: fisheries biology, marine biology/ecology, marine mammals, and/or coastal/marine issues. Experience and capabilities must also include: task-level management skills, field experience, familiarity with study design, multiple field sampling techniques, boat work, data collection, and statistical interpretation. Demonstrated experience in writing technical reports and proposals is a must. Local environmental knowledge and contacts helpful but not required.
You will also work with a team to develop and design projects and review and revise project documents and reports. You must be able to work with minimal oversight to undertake the research and writing of technical reports according to set timelines and deliver quality written results. You must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals as well as write routine reports and correspondence. Being able to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations is also needed. Excellent research, writing and communication skills required. You must be computer literate and have knowledge of MS Word and Excel. Prior consulting or government agency experience preferred but not required.
MS/MA degree in coastal/marine environmental or related field preferred with at least 2 years of progressive experience in a professional environment or BS/BA with at least 4 years of progressive experience. Master’s in Biological Oceanography is preferred.
While performing the duties of this job, you will be regularly required to talk or hear and must be able to frequently stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. You will be occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. You will regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
The work environment may necessitate work near moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid conditions. Work is occasionally conducted in locations where noise, fumes, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration may exist. The work environment will require participation in the Tetra Tech Medical Surveillance Program and you will be required to maintain a current medical clearance to work and wear respiratory protection.
You will be expected to drive either a company car, rental car or your own car in the course of performing the job from time to time. You must be able to perform the physical functions of operating a motor vehicle, including use of eyes, ears, arms, hands, legs, and feet. You must have the ability to pass a motor vehicle background check with no restrictions on their license.
