Coding Specialist - Medical Imaging

About the Job

This position is responsible for coding diagnostic and therapeutic Medical Imaging (MI) Procedures and abstracting relevant clinical information for CT, IR, Fluoroscopy, General Diagnostics, Molecular Medicine, and Ultrasound. The coder tracks problematic claims for bundling edits and researches claims with missing charges.

This position acts as a resource on coding, data elements, and medical record documentation to all appropriate individuals/committees within the hospital. The MI Coder reviews complex interventional and vascular procedures and applies appropriate coding. The coder maintains the integrity of the department chargemaster and shares information through an accurate crosswalk.

The ideal candidate will possess:
~Completion and successful graduation of Coding Certificate Program with AHIMA status. ~Training in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pathology and disease processes, pharmacology, health record format and content, coding conventions, rules, and guidelines for current classification systems (ICD-9-CM, CPT-4).
~Graduate of an approved Medical Record Program and credentialed as a Registered Health Information Administrator or Registered Health Information Technician.
~A graduate of a Coding Certificate program and successful completion of the Certified Coding Associate exam will be considered. Successful completion of the Certified Coding Specialist exam and/or comparable work experience in a similar environment may be considered in lieu of education.
~ 3+ years of experience as a coder for imaging studies.
~Expertise in knowledge of Intervention and Vascular procedures.
~One year working knowledge in all imaging studies.
~Three years working knowledge of computer/software programs.
~Formal training in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology.
~Must be able to communicate effectively and comfortably with physicians, patients, hospital managers, and other internal and external individuals/departments.
~One year experience with quality assurance studies/audits preferred.
