Position Summary:

The Cognos Developer is responsible for working with the global Business Intelligence (BI) team in order to provide administrative and design support for our IBM Cognos application that will be highly utilized for client and internal projects. In this role, you will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and updating the metadata layer of the application along with developing insightful reports and dashboards.  This position will work with multiple departments and sites to ensure the system is built to reflect the needs of all users.

This role is a combination of hands-on system development along with report building, and it will require excellent organization and communication skills.  The responsibilities of this role include managing multiple projects, providing database guidance, and implementing system changes in order to grow and enhance the global BI application.  

The ideal candidate will apply high-quality expertise to the implementation of our Business Intelligence application that supports our global reporting business. 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Lead, design, and develop Cognos models, cubes, and reports
  • Perform detailed documentation of design, development, testing and deployment activities
  • Design and deploy OLAP cubes, drill down reports and dashboards
  • Implement and maintain Cognos Framework Manager
  • Maintain and modify existing Business Intelligence cubes and reports.
  • Maintain the accuracy, integrity, and availability of our BI platform
  • Develop business intelligence solutions using an array of Cognos tools (Report Studio, Metric Studio, Business Insight Advanced, Mobile, Analysis Studio and Event Studio)

·         Work directly with professional services to create the initial metadata layer of the Cognos system

·         Work with the BI team to understand the current and future business needs

·         Continue to grow and enhance the metadata layer of the system so all reporting on the BI team is automated through metadata changes, filters, calculations, and complex case logic

·         Partner with our database architects to actively manage the database and data warehouse to ensure best practices are in place

·         Handle the application setup, database connection, and build the framework manager content of the system

·         Assist in setting up the data security framework for internal and external users

·         Consult with end-users to help define specifications for the analysis projects and system enhancements

·         Assist in administering installation, configuration, and software upgrades of Cognos applications

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

·         Bachelor degree in technology preferred

·         2-5 years of experience working with MS SQL Server as a database engine

·         5 + years recent experience with Cognos 8.4 or above (Administrator, Framework Manager, Report Studio, and Analysis Studio)

·         3+ years of experience with enterprise data warehouse architecture and/or design with dimensional data modeling

·         Experience with Cognos 10 Business Insight Advanced and Active Reports

·         Understanding of application and web servers

·         Experience with gathering business requirements, business design, and assistance with technical design, development, and deployment of dashboards

·         Experience with all phases of the software development life cycle (requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and support)

·         Knowledge of call center KPIs and systems

·         Ability to multi-task, understand and be responsive to customer needs, and work under tight deadlines
