JOB TITLE:                              College Representative                                

DEPARTMENT:                       Community & Educational Affairs  

SUPERVISOR:                         Director, Speakers Bureau

STATUS:                                  Part time

 

 

SUMMARY:    To serve as a liaison between FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising and the educational community.  To initiate and develop professional relationships with counselors, teachers and other members of the educational community in high schools and colleges in assigned geographical territories.  Present FIDM prepared curriculum specific presentations targeted at specialized classes, fairs, conferences and exhibitions.  Responsible for the marketing of FIDM’s post secondary educational program and career opportunities associated with FIDM majors. Refer students interested in FIDM and act as a liaison in partnering with the Admissions department.

 

The FIDM New York College Representative must be based on Long Island, NY with “local” territory outreach and visitation concentrating primarily on High Schools and Colleges/ fairs/ exhibitions/ conferences on Long Island, New York City and the Burroughs, with possibility of assisting in other cities throughout the State of New York and perhaps Connecticut, from time to time.

 
Training in Los Angeles to begin July/August 2012.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.    Exercise discretion and judgment in identifying and communicating with appropriate members of the educational community, including counselors and educators in secondary and post secondary institutions and school districts who advise students and influence college choices.

2.    Initiate and schedule meetings and presentations with counselors, teachers, career advisors and administrators to inform them on FIDM’s educational programs, industry related careers and educator/student resources offered by FIDM.

  1. Understand the environment of the educational community in the assigned territory.
  2. Develop foundational knowledge and skills in interdisciplinary curriculums in public and private high schools, as well as 2 and 4-year educational institutions.
    5.    Speak professionally and instruct on a variety of different standards based educational enrichment presentations. FIDM requires the College Representative to learn and complete specialized certifications on all presentations as assigned by the Territory Director.

6.    Conduct one-on-one and group meetings and presentations with students who have expressed interest in pursuing careers in the fashion, interior design, visual arts and entertainment industries.

7.    Identify prospective students and discern critical leads to communicate to assigned Admissions partners on a regular basis.

  1. Utilize strong public relations, customer service and marketing outreach skills to initiate and develop long-term relationships with counselors and educators. 

9.    Arrange participation and represent FIDM at College Fairs, Career Days, Transfer Days, Professional/Graduate School Fairs and educational industry related conferences.

10.  Develop and execute the strategic planning and organization of the territory outreach calendar.

11.   Generate innovative approaches and creative, problem-solving techniques to increase awareness about FIDM to targeted high schools and colleges. 

 

 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES (CONT.):       

 

12.  Be responsible for administrative duties, including organization and coding of student information cards, completing payroll and activity reports, maintaining and posting a current appointment calendar on the FIDM Domino account or other calendar program as assigned, and providing other critical information regarding educational institutions and clientele within the assigned territory.

  1. Attend all trainings and partnership meetings, and complete all required assignments and studies.
  2. Regularly research and stay abreast of FIDM’s websites, industry trends and current events that relate to FIDM and the classroom presentations.
  3. Check emails and Domino account regularly and utilize the FIDM intranet.
  4. Schedule trainings for new and revised FIDM presentations as required.
  5. Participate in FIDM’s special events as required, i.e. Three Days of Fashion, Debut, etc.
  6. Project a professional image indicative of a fashion industry professional.

19.  Research and schedule activities, conferences, exhibitions, fairs and school visits within the territory.

20.  Travel to events within the territory as a FIDM representative.

  • Creative, innovative and talented public speaker
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a team
  • Ability to inspire and motivate others
  • Excellent driving record and safe, fully insured vehicle
  • Public relations skills
  • Proficient in operating a variety of multimedia equipment including LCD projectors, DVD players, Smart Boards and computers.

EDUCATION:  College degree required

 

WORK EXPERIENCE:  Fashion, visual arts, interior design, or entertainment industry background; public speaking, and educational counseling or teaching

 

COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED:

Proficient in Microsoft Office, Internet, E mail
