Role Summary/Purpose
The Combined Cycle Plant Conceptual Design Engineer will be a key member of the Thermal Systems Integration team focused on improving total plant competitiveness by creating and evaluating conceptual plant designs optimized around internal and customer CTQ’s. This Systems Engineering position will lead and integrate multiple areas of expertise and analysis resources in order produce fully integrated designs.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Strategy: Through understanding of the plant system equipment trades, including total installed cost and operating cost; identifies gaps between current GE and best-in-class designs
  • Recommends strategic technologies or programs as part of a multi generation program plan (MGPP) for world class competitive plant designs
  • Leads cross-functional teams including Gas Turbine, Steam turbine, Generator and Power Plant Systems and Advanced technology Operations to arrive at optimum conceptual designs. Conducts and directs analysis of competing concepts
  • Brings NPI disciple with objective evaluations of product and program cost, performance and risk to drive databased configuration decisions
  • Drives product standardization in conceptual designs
  • Understands the impacts of equipment layout on construction material and installation / erection costs and implements into designs
  • Programs: Manages assigned program budgets and schedules, drives execution setting priorities and trading program vs. technical CTQ’s where necessary. Provides accurate plans to incorporate into business operation plan.
  • Interfaces with Product Management and Projects, drives to understand customer CTQ’s, barriers and field issue history to incorporate lessons learned into future designs and processes

    Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in heavy-duty gas turbine combined cycle power plants either in total plant design or across multiple aspects of power plant design leading to clear expertise in the total system
  • Green Belt certified (GE internal candidates)

    Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Solid technical understanding of GT, ST, BOP and Civil aspects of plant design as they relate to performance, RAM and cost
  • Team leadership skills, able to engage and motivate diverse cross-functional teams Able to direct effort in component teams outside if direct expertise
  • Program / Project leadership experience, record of on schedule and budget execution
  • Clear thinker, demonstrated capability to take complex problems and reduce to essential decisions actions and plans
  • Strong analytical, communications, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Black Belt or Master Black Belt certified (GE employees only)
  • Strong Business Acumen, understand of GE business processes
