Commercial Counsel opportunity to support our Legal Department based in The Woodlands, Texas.
The primary purpose of this role is to provide professional legal services as a point of contact to one or more Business Divisions or Functional Departments. Legal services provided will primarily be focused in the Americas but potentially could also be called upon to provide support internationally if required. The job holder will be responsible for rendering professional legal advice and support in matters covering a broad spectrum of commercial subjects, including but not limited to: contracts, transactions, litigation, antitrust regulations and business practices.
Essential responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Draft, negotiate, administer, interpret and advise on agreements, letters, forms and other legal documents.
- Assess and advise on liabilities and legal restrictions and risks of proposed commercial transactions and devise creative and practical legal solutions to meet the commercial needs.
- Monitor, interpret and advise on current and new relevant legislation and case law.
- Advise on and promote compliance by the Business Division with applicable laws and regulations along with Huntsman and the Business Division's or Functions policies and procedures.
- Assist in providing and provide training on relevant legislation, legal issues and procedures.
- Be responsible, together with the respective commercial managers, for the relevant contract administration.
- Evaluate the necessity to seek expert advice from outside legal counsel.
- Monitor, manage and ensure effectiveness of assistance by such outside legal counsel. Propose procedures for routine legal agreements.
General Responsibilities:
- Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
- Assists other employees in accomplishment of Huntsman company goals.
- Participates in and completes company-required training programs.
- Participates in Environmental, Health and Safety initiatives as set forth by the company.
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
- Doctorate’s Degree in Law with 4+ years of related experience is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Engineering is preferred.
- 4 to 8 years experience in drafting, negotiating and advising on contracts and commercial transactions is required.
Special Requirements & Qualifications (Training, Technical skills, etc.):
- Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, E-mail and Microsoft programs.
- Bi-lingual (English / Spanish or English / Portuguese) is preferred.
- Must be qualified to practice law in at least one state in the US, with a current State Bar Licence.
