Position Description:
Responsible for profitable growth of Property/Casualty and WorkersCompensation business through proper classification and pricing of riskswithin assigned territory/industry. Evaluates commercial business forrisk acceptability - matching price to exposure, loss frequency andseverity for profitability, and rating plans/modifications for renewalretention. Establishes collaborative relationships with Agencies tounderstand the external marketplace and underwrites within establishedperformance standards and priorities that are responsive to marketing,underwriting, retention and service goals.

Position Requirements:
Accountable for selecting, underwriting and pricing decisions of anassigned book of business within authority levels.Accepts, modifies or rejects risks based on a review of business interms of loss experience, inspection reports, file information, webresources, policyholder tenure, related policies, and nature of risk inaccordance with company guidelines, standards and compliance with statelaws. Provides documentation for any exceptions to establishedguidelines and critical account information relating to the finalunderwriting decision.Verifies coverage eligibility. Interprets policy contractlanguage/forms and uses approved classification systems, rating plansand selection standards to determine eligibility, desirability andproper classification/pricing.Effectively communicates decisions and resolve agent/customer concernspromptly.Provides technical assistance to internal and external customersregarding coverage interpretations, policy and endorsement provisions,and underwriting acceptability for commercial property/casualty andworkers compensation coverages.Develops collaborative working relationships with assigned agentsproviding excellent customer service. Includes effective communicationthrough phone calls and email to gather and analyze necessaryinformation critical to the underwriting process and occasional fieldvisits, to create new business opportunities and improve policy renewalretention.At direction of the Team Manager, evaluates unprofitable books ofbusiness, agents or districts. Assists in developing plans to improveprofitability.Informs team Manager of weakness in coverage and/or products that areadversely impacting growth potential. Gathers pertinent competitiveinformation to assist in developing recommendations to productdevelopment.Provides support in a mentoring role to other team members within thecommercial department, providing underwriting philosophy, guidance andtraining on transactions that exceed team member authority levels.Assist in educating agencies on products, services, automation, andunderwriting standards as well as sales and cross selling techniques topromote accomplishment of our corporate goals.Takes the lead in special projects and performs other duties andresponsibilities as assigned by the Commercial Service team manager.Maintains underwriting quality standardsMay be required to work outside of core business hours depending onbusiness needsPerforms other functions as assigned.

Position Attributes:
Experience in multi-line commercial underwriting up to $100,000 in premium.
