Commodity Beef Buyer
About the Job
Reports To: VP of Meats
Company is a leading wholesale grocery distribution company that supplies food and non-food products to independent supermarkets in New England and the Northeast. They distribute a full line of grocery items, including meat products, produce, and frozen food, as well as household goods and other general merchandise. The company is well established and has an excellent name in the industry.
This position cost effectively sources and purchases commodity beef and sees to the arrival in a timely manner. This position must be able to read and interpret reports in order to understand production needs and order product to keep proper inventory levels. Should have an advanced understanding of commodity markets and how futures are traded.
Key Job Responsibilities:
• Purchase beef products, specifically Cryovac and New Zealand beef
• Negotiate purchases and programs that provide the greatest value from approved suppliers.
• Monitor and track all Certificate of Analysis for program compliance.
• Actively search for new suppliers that may be able to bring greater value to our programs.
• Cooperate with USDA inspectors during compliance inspections.
• Stay informed with current market situations in order to make rational purchasing decisions.
• Always be aware of production needs in order to least cost formulate and provide the best possible customer service.
• Consult with Transportation and Logistics to always find the most efficient method of moving product from one location to another.
Education: Four year college degree preferred
Experience: A minimum of 5 years experience in purchasing meat.
