Commodity Manager

The Electronics Group of Crane Aerospace & Electronics designs and manufactures high-density, high-reliability electronics for our aerospace, space, military, medical, industrial, and commercial customers. From the Mars Rover to implantable defibrillators; from submarines to fighter jets, our products have proven their ability to operate in the most demanding environments.

Our services include customized-contract manufacturing service and products focused on military and defense applications. Services include the assembly and testing of printed circuit boards, electromechanical devices, customized integrated systems, cables and wire harnesses.

You will be responsible for leading supply chain strategies for Crane Electronics Group.  The Commodity Manager is accountable and responsible for developing and implementing commodity strategies that delivers the lowest total cost, reduces inventory and maximizes customer satisfaction through best in class on time delivery, lead time and quality metrics.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide effective support to new product introduction teams, proposal development and subcontracting opportunities as they develop.
  • Engender a spirit of cooperation throughout the supply chain to insure responsiveness to the customer.
  • Develop and lead the execution of global supply chain strategies that support Crane Electronics Group objectives for material cost reduction, supplier OTD, inventory reduction, supplier quality and supplier lead times.  This would include actions to rationalize the supply base, drive increased sourcing from low cost sources, leverage the material spend with other Crane business units, implement supplier agreements and reduce the administrative cost of the Supply Chain functions.
  • Maintain awareness of world markets and emerging material related issues in the industry and position the supply chain to flexibly respond accordingly.
  • Leverage technology solutions to maximize effectiveness and efficiency of the strategic sourcing process.
  • Lead Crane Electronics Group cross functional commodity teams to determine sourcing strategies that meet expectations for Group metrics.
  • Consistent with Crane’s Operational Excellence focus, lead Value Stream Mapping and Kaizen events that will eliminate waste and result in significant benefits (growth, safety, quality, delivery, cost) throughout the Supply Chain.
  • Lead supplier development activities while partnering with Quality organizations to improve safety, quality, deliver and cost.
  • Actively champion the Supply Chain and Operational vision & initiatives within Crane Electronics and with Crane’s customers and suppliers. 
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with Crane sister business units in order to improve the overall group.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

·         BBA or equivalent

·         Minimum 7 years experience in Supply Chain related role, at least 5 of which were in management role.  Microwave electronics or aerospace knowledge is desired.

·         Direct experience implementing lean concepts (Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen Leadership, 5S, etc.) Lean/Six Sigma certification (black belt or green belt) is desired.

·         Prior experience implementing a pull system/Kanban approach to component flow.

·         Global sourcing experience.

·         Proven ability to develop collaborative relationships & influence up, down and across organizational lines.

·         Strong negotiation and contract management skills.

·         Excellent analytical, problem solving/decision making skills; ability to make timely effective, fact based decisions.

·         Proven expertise in developing supplier quality systems and supplier performance metrics.

·         Knowledge/experience with eSourcing tools.

·         Willingness to travel 50% with frequent travel to Taiwan.

·         Proficient with MS Office Suite and Web applications

·         Certification in APICS and/or ISM is highly desired.

·         Strong verbal, quantitative and interpersonal skills.

·         May be required to qualify for US Government security clearance.
