Composition Specialist 1 (SteelWay) (1902)
Description
Composition Services is responsible for typesetting, editing, proofreading and coordinating preparation of financial data from customer supplied information to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to establishment standards by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- All Composition Specialist are expected to complete all necessary training modules and skill assessments as assigned.
- Works with urgency as directed by leads and coordinators to ensure timely delivery of all Composition related requests.
- Communicates with the Composition Leads and Composition Coordinators when any problems are encountered which may affect a job's integrity or timely delivery.
- Maintains an awareness of assigned job's status to ensure all work will be completed on schedule.
- Works directly with Composition Lead or Coordinator to ensure that quality documents, which meet SEC regulations, are delivered to our clients.
- Cooperates fully in the performance of all tasks assigned, including working in other occupations, in order to meet the Department's objective.
- Keeps current with all SOPs and changes due tot system enhancements.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the requirements of financial documents (formatting, layout, SEC requirements)
- Demonstrates an understanding of typesetting metrics of points, picas, fonts, etc. as it pertains to the company's typesetting system.
- Mentors peer composition specialist in training to acquire new skills.
- Converts and/or inputs new client copy and alterations, text and tabular, utilizing commands to properly create and edit a document in both content and format.
- Understands and applies standard proofread marks.
- Uses standard processes for delivering proofs to Customer Service.
- Must be PC literate and be proficient in MS Word. Beneficial to have background in Excel.
- Performs basic file management functions within typesetting system and applications.
- Participates in system and application testing as requested.
- Participates in all Safety Initiatives including EHS requirements.
- Assists in the 'Continuous Improvement' process through recommendations, analysis, use, and implementation of Standard Practices.
Required Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Position will require employees to work rotating shifts, overtime (may be last minute & extensive during peaks), weekend coverage and scheduled peak periods (where vacation black-outs are in place) based on business need. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Typing and/or proofreading, PC experience is essential.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with internal clients and external clients whenever needed.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all unites of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situation s where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
