



Job Title: Computer Aided Design Technician
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB
The Computer Aided Design (CAD) Technician position is located in the corporate offices. The CAD Technician is responsible for preparation, modification, and development of CAD drawings for construction and modification. Additionally, the CAD Technician may be involved development of design standards for drawings, drawing templates, and corporate standards for information and format on documents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The CAD Technician is responsible for development and production of all in-house CAD drawings, development of CAD standards, templates, and information standards, development and management of a corporate-wide CAD library for facilities, networks, infrastructure, and cable management, and acting as a strategic planner related to CAD requirements.
Duties are typical of construction management, and include but are not limited to:
· Preparation of minor construction, equipment installation, and support CAD documents
· AE/Contractor coordination for CAD issues and review of CAD submissions
· Participation in AE/Consultant selection for CAD support
· Development and management of a CAD drawing library and storage systems for corporate-wide drawings
· Preparation of cost and time estimates related to CAD work
· Ensuring requests for information clarifications are reflected in CAD and as-built drawings
· Review and approval of as-built drawings and update of CAD drawings to reflect red-line as-built drawings
· Strategizing means and manner to use CAD drawings for inspection and acceptance of construction, streamlining customer implementation efforts, and facility planning.
· Review and approval of contractor plans (safety, demolition, etc.) and schedules
· Working closely with AE firms and contractors to resolve construction and design issues and implement customer requested changes
· Monitor project costs and payments, change order logs, submittals logs, as-built drawings, and construction period testing
· Develop checklists to ensure turnover of submittals, O&M manuals, as-built drawings, and all CAD files related to a project
· Develop and maintain up to date CAD drawings
Supervision
This position reports to the Assistant Directors of various departments. The Assistant Director will provide broad program goals, general objectives, and specific guidance related to construction projects and issues. The incumbent will have great latitude and independence to meet goals and objectives. The position will typically perform assigned duties independently and routinely handle most work functions without guidance. Unique problems concerning contractual or technical matters will be discussed with the Assistant Director.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
The incumbent should have at least a 2-year degree from an accredited institution.
The incumbent should demonstrate the following skills and knowledge:
· Reading and interpreting blueprints
· Ability to interpret and analyze contract documents, specifications, building codes, OSHA regulations, and A/A documents
· Working knowledge of construction specifications, building and electrical codes, and safety regulations
· Ability to understand and represent building systems and infrastructure components, wiring and network diagrams on CAD drawings
· Ability to follow written policy and verbal direction
· Good interpersonal communication skills
· Ability to communicate well both orally and in written form
· Knowledge of scheduling methods
· Ability to manage multiple tasks
· Knowledge of CAD systems (such as AutoCAD) and certification as a CAD technician
· Ability to act as a CAD system administrator and obtain certification as an administrator
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent will perform assigned duties in both office and construction settings. The CAD Technician must be able to climb ladders, enter underground vaults and confined spaces, work at heights, and show physical dexterity, flexibility, and coordination to work on construction sites. The Technician must be able to wear safety shoes, protective eyewear, and a hard hat. The position may be exposed to temperature extremes during construction work. Lifting up to 75 pounds, unassisted, may be required
