Job Purpose:
Under general supervision monitors and operates multiple mainframe and
open system platforms.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs computer system support and utilizes various computer systems software on a daily basis.
- Performs computer system support and utilizes various computer systems software on a daily basis. (z/OS, z/VM, Linux, HP-UX, Solaris, AIX, JES2, IMS, CICS, DB2, CA-1, CA-7, CA-11, CA-Deliver, RMDS, HSC, ISPF, SDSF, Veritas NetBackup, HP ServiceCenter, HP OpenView, Control-M, SAP, iSeries, SharePoint)
- Ensures global system availability meeting all service level agreements
- Provides first level support to all Avnet customers. Communicates effectively with users and initiates problem resolution including timely escalation of problems to programmer/analysts data center management technical support and vendors.
- Compiles and documents operational statistics required by senior management.
- Trouble-shoot issues to determine root cause.
- Use learned skillsets to proactively prevent problem conditions.
- Maintains documentation and tools necessary to perform this job function.
- Operates multiple hardware systems.
- Performs computer system support and utilizes various computer systems software on a daily basis (z/OS, z/VM, Linux, HP-UX, Solaris, AIX, JES2, IMS, CICS, DB2, CA-1, CA-7, CA-11, CA-Deliver, RMDS, HSC, ISPF, SDSF, Veritas NetBackup, HP ServiceCenter, HP OpenView, Control-M, SAP, iSeries, SharePoint)
- Monitors environmental systems for multiple facilities via SiteScan.
- Learn new hardware, software, and their respective procedures.
- Provides Help Desk support primarily during off-shift hours.
- Imparts training and assistance as needed.
- Ensures proper turnover between shifts.
Knowledge and Skill:
- Requires basic JCL and basic Unix/Linux skills.
- Requires intermediate PC and office software skills.
- Requires ability to read write and understand verbal and written instructions.
- Requires effective oral and written communications skills.
Work Experience Requirements:
Requires 1 year of related experience.
Education Requirements:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Prefer A+ and/or Net+ Certification.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
Network cabling experience is preferred.
