DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Reacting Flow Research Department is part of the Transportation Energy Center at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, California. The department focuses on basic research, including theoretical, computational, and experimental investigations, in the scientific, engineering, and mathematical disciplines related to the fluid and thermal energy sciences.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Our department is looking for a skilled and motivated scientific software developer who will be involved in many projects in a diverse variety of subject areas. The selected candidate will be responsible for the software aspects (e.g., user interfaces, open-source packaging, code portability across multiple computing platforms, parallel scalability, and code repository management) of a multitude of computational scientific projects. Other duties will involve grid generation and data acquisition using commercial software packages.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a master’s degree in computational science, computer science, engineering, or a related field. Other required qualifications include (1) demonstrated experience managing software projects in a Linux/Unix environment, (2) excellent communication skills, (3) demonstrated teamwork skills, (4) extensive experience in C/C++ code development, (5) familiarity with Fortran and a willingness to learn object-oriented Fortran 2003, (6) fluency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Perl, or similar languages), (7) familiarity with Autotools or CMake, and (8) a willingness to learn grid generation techniques for computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

Desired qualifications include (1) expertise in parallel programming with MPI and OpenMP, (2) experience with open-source software development version-control systems (e.g., CVS and Subversion), and (3) experience with other code development tools.
