Computer Support Sr Spec
Description:
Help Desk Support Specialist needed for our client at NIH.
The technician serves as initial point of contact for troubleshooting of PC and Mac hardware/software, peripherals and networking problems. The technicians will provide general user support that includes troubleshooting individual machine problems (memory and power supply failure, disk crash, loss of connection to the network, printing problems, software problems, email, file folder access and permission, etc.). User support will also cover setting up and configure individual new and used computers and laptops to meet security requirements such as encryption, anti-virus, and security patches as well as for accessing to the NIH wireless and wired network and Internet. Some assistance will also be provided to users in the operation of computers and common applications such as word processing, email, Internet browsers, spreadsheets, imaging, as well as site licensed software, etc.
In addition, the support technician will provide operational support to maintain and deploy software upgrades, anti-virus protection and security patches under the direction of system administrators, security specialists or the IT managers. The technician will also provide support for network connectivity including:
- trouble shooting and patching in LAN closets
- maintenance and management of data and fileservers for users including creating file folders, setting up user access and permissions, etc.
- assist the security specialist to react and clean any security and virus alerts from Incident Response Team (IRT) and monthly Sara security scans.
- evaluate new versions of software and hardware
The support technician is also required to have knowledge and skills in configuring scientific equipment, computers and interfaces. In addition, the technician is required to provide DHCP, Active Directory account support including users and computer objects in the domain as well as assist system administrators to provide server and application support to end users. User training on NIH licensed software and recommendation of software and hardware for research or specific projects may be requested.
Candidate must have 7-9 years experience in desktop and server support, support of Windows and MAC and good interpersonal and communication skills.
Qualifications:
7-9 years of experience in desktop and server support.
Personnel selected for performance in this task must be oriented toward customer service and thoroughly trained and experience in supporting desktops and laptops running Windows XP/Vista or Mac OS including hardware (both computers and peripherals) and software installation, mobile devices, infrastructure connectivity including LAN and WAN, and configuration and trouble shooting.
In addition, the technician must be familiar with Microsoft Office suite, security software, Internet browsers, and has experience in installing, upgrading and removing hardware and software. The expertise described in desktop support specialist The contractor must have good communication and interpersonal skills to interact with customers.
The working knowledge of Windows and Mac fileservers and moderate level of skills of networking and security software is also required.
Must be familiar with client support environment and site licensed software; and have the most recent knowledge of information technology
