Job Summary


 


Create and document the Sizzling Platter Technology Operations Data Center standards for the Widows Server family of products, Internet Information Server and the .NET Framework.  The standards are made up of security, performance, reliability, service packs, hot fixes, and tuning parameters.  The role is also tasked with creating the deployment mechanism that will be used to apply those standards to all servers.


 


Performs the highest level of technical support and consulting by solving highly complex system problems.  Perform highest level of engineering/analysis and be required to ensure appropriate implementation of methodology.  Creates scripts/batch files to automate repetitive administrative tasks or to perform administrative tasks more efficiently.


 


Essential Job Functions



  • Perform installation, functional, and performance testing on the deployment standards owned by you and other team members
  • Provide advanced technical troubleshooting support and problem resolution and solutions.
  • Provide technical engineering support for the implementation, integration, administration, and evolution of complex systems architectures.  This role works closely and consults with the product development and quality assurance teams, during both pre-release product cycles and post-launch operations to ensure the highest quality service
  • Develop disaster scenarios and the method(s) used to recover from them.  Develop disaster and recovery policies.
  • Provide systems statistical trending and analysis, application performance monitoring, server capacity and threshold testing, systems documentation,  maintenance, and the development, analysis and evaluation of new systems designs and technical optimization tactics
  • Mentor the Systems Administrator staff through basic troubleshooting documentation and training, and evolve the overall level of systems expertise of the group
  • Assist in architecting back office services

 


Knowledge / Experience


 


Qualifications include:  Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated work experience in Operations / Engineering for large-scale data center environments.  3 or more years Microsoft Internet Information Server, Exchange Server and Windows NT/2000/2003 Server (Active Directory).  4-5 years experiences with TCP/IP protocols, architecture and principles (DNS, DHCP, etc).  Extensive knowledge of client server architecture. Ability to create scripts using the Windows 2000 Scripting Host (WSH), Knowledge of enterprise Data Center hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.).


 


A BA/BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience is required. MCSE + Internet / MCDBA Certifications or commensurate related experience is preferred.  Familiarity with SQL Server and some basic DBA responsibilities as a backup.  Working knowledge of Microsoft’s MOM (Microsoft Operations Manager) or other monitoring systems. 


 


Skills / Abilities


 


This position requires someone who possesses demonstrated technical proficiency gained from deep and varied implementation experience in an operations/production environment with the majority of Microsoft technologies in at least one of the following areas: Application services (Internet Information Services, COM+ Services, .Net Framework, Terminal Services, how to deploy these technologies with the "abilities" for these in mind, not write code.  Deployment services, Automated Purposing Framework, Remote Installation Services, Microsoft Systems Management Server, SysPrep, & a variety of vendors' PC hardware.  Data services (Microsoft SQL Server).  File services (Distributed File System), and print or Management services (Microsoft Systems Management Server), remote management cards from different hardware vendors such as the Compaq Remote Insight Board.  Knowledge of how to build security and the abilities (scalability, manageability, & availability) into the implementation of the technologies is also required.   Ability to take projects from beginning to end with little direct supervision; excellent software troubleshooting skills; strong communication skills; details oriented.  Strong problem resolution, decision making and analytical skills required.
