Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (Amex:BKR), is seeking to fill a position for a Construction Cost Estimator in the Construction Services Business Unit at the Moon Township corporate headquarters office.
Baker provides an array of technical services including: cost estimating, request-for-proposal development, constructability evaluations, scheduling, design services and construction management. These services are provided in support of other Baker Business Units or as third party consultant to public, private and/or military clients.
Principal Duties include:
o Interpretation of inquiry documents, specifications and design drawings, and application of the information to prepare the estimate.
o Meet with and coordinate with the project(s) designers to confirm the overall scope of work.
o Monitor and control the quality and grades of materials and equipment to remain within the project budget.
o Oversee and/or perform the take-off of material quantities, assemble the estimate data and coordinate pricing, with estimating department team members as well as others that may be involved. (ie: project managers)
o (On applicable projects) Take an active role in the designation of bid-packaging of the projects.
o Prepare cost study information, cost(s) evaluation, to assist the designer in the selection of economical design options.
o Prepare final cost estimate summaries and analyze estimate for scope, pricing, completeness.
o Attend estimate reviews to insure all questions related to the basis of the estimate have been addressed and included, or excluded, from the estimate in coordination with other trades.
o Periodically follow-up with site/project personnel to review cost trends, forecast (or bids) versus the final estimate, problems and field means and methods.
o Prepare time and cost impact analyses in the event of a possible delay, actual delay and/or contractor claim for delay/damages.
Minimum requirements include a technical degree with 5 or more years experience in construction estimating with specific experience in MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) trades. Experience in “hard-bid” contract work as well as conceptual estimating is required. Experience in working directly with design firm(s) in the development of budget estimates is a plus. Practical experience in the following programs is also preferred: MCACES (MII), PACES and R.S. Means. This position may require periodic travel, including the potential opportunity for overseas travel.
