I. A Firestopping and Construction Company seeks a Construction Manager. Our organization has been located in the Heights area of Houston since 2006.   We assist new and existing healthcare facilities (such as nursing, assisted living, and hospital buildings) meet the requirements of the State and Federal Life Safety Code and International Building Code.  As such, our services are divided into three separate entities: the first, a Consulting Firm that provides Life Safety Consulting, the second, a Firestopping and Construction company that addresses the construction needs for our clients, and the third, an Architecture Services Firm.  This position will be for the Construction Company and will allow for a variety of work experiences, with duties changing day to day, and offering exposure to interesting challenges.


The candidate must be highly self-motivated and organized to succeed in this position and help continue the growth of the company. 


The ideal individual will have experience in the long-term care or healthcare field.


II. The Construction Manager will be expected to fulfill the following responsibilities:


Demonstrate experience of various construction functions, including firestopping, drywall, framing, plumbing, electrical, etc. 


Prepare estimates and proposals for jobs to prospective and existing clients in a timely manner.


Allocate materials and labor effectively and efficiently while tracking job costs per each transaction.


Maintain a network of contacts to fulfill different subcontracting opportunities as needed.


Supervise subcontractors and employees, ensuring that all responsibilities are being completed as required and that labor expenses remain within budget demands during each phase of work.


Review construction plans and ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes and standards.


Comprehend fire safety systems, including firestopping, fire alarms, sprinkler systems, fire dampers, smoke dampers, fire barriers and smoke barriers, as it relates to the individual project and construction type.


Provide reports to each client as requested, presenting the client with any relevant information regarding the job and its progress, and proposing suitable solutions.  Notes must be maintained during site visits.


III. Our company recognizes the unique area of expertise required for our line of construction and with this understanding we are prepared to properly train the Construction Manager on relevant Life Safety Codes and Standards that are applicable to this position.  However, the individual must demonstrate an interest in codes, specifically those pertaining to the NFPA Life Safety Code, and also the State Licensing Standards that are closely related to the occupancies we serve. 




IV. The position requires


(a) A bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or an equivalent; a combination of education and experience may be considered.

(b) A minimum of two years of Construction Supervision, Life Safety, or Project Management experience.

(d) High competency in communication and writing skills, specifically grammar and spelling.

(e) Proficiency with computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

(f) Reliable transportation, including a Texas driving license and liability insurance.


Additionally, this position will require the individual to climb ladders, and inspect attics or other confined spaces, for several hours, daily, as needed.  Overnight travel, at times, may be required up to 25%, typically one night away per trip.  Weekend work is rarely required.
