Medium-sized General Contractor specializing in Federal/DoD construction looking for a Site Safety Office for a new design-build project at Fort Lewis, WA. Primary duties to include implementation of the Accident Prevention Plan and Site Safety and Health Program, working under the authority of the Project Manager and Site Superintendent.
Duties:
The general duties for this position are summarized below, but will include other routine tasks not specifically identified below.
1. Periodically inspect work areas and equipment for compliance with work rules and safety standards. 2. Instruct employees on the hazards of the job, how to work safely and according to operating procedures, and on applicable safety and health regulations. 3. Take responsibility for maintaining a safe and healthful workplace, proper housekeeping, proper illuminating and ventilation, and the use of personal protective equipment as required for the job. 4. See that all injuries are promptly and properly treated. 5. Analyze all processes, operations and facilities for hazards and changes, or eliminate the hazards. 6. Investigate the causes of all accidents and injuries and complete reports as required. 7. Conduct employee safety meetings and new employee orientations. 8. Make each employee aware that violation of established safety rules will result in disciplinary actions. 9. Compliment safe workers in the presence of co-workers, counsel unsafe workers when no one else is present. 10. Set the proper example for safety by complying with the safety program and displaying a positive attitude toward the safety program. 11. Maintain and educate personnel on HAZCOM and MSDS information, and update the chemical inventory list. Education Requirement: High School degree is required. Some college work is preferable, and a Bachelor's degree is a major plus. Skills/Qualifications: Experience Required: Minimum of 5 years relevant experience performing onsite safety management of construction projects. Some experience with Federal/Military construction STRONGLY preferred. Prior familiarity with EM 385-1-1 strongly preferred.
Word Processing, Written Communication, Coordination, Familiarity with Construction Industry and standard construction practices, Attention to Detail, minimum of 30-hour OSHA training (REQUIRED), CPR and First Aid Certification (will be required- is a plus if already obtained), Relevant competent person training (scaffolding, fall protection, confined space, etc.), Familiarity with US Army Corps of Engineers EM 385-1-1 "Safety and Health Requirements Manual"
