Consumer Insight Manager
Coinstar is seeking a manager to lead the consumer insights / marketing research piece of a new kiosk-based retail venture. The Sr. Manager of Consumer Insights will essentially own defining who the customers / target audience(s) are, what their needs are, and what is the value proposition that will win them over. The manager needs to combine intuitive understanding of consumers in the retail space with both qualitative and quantitative market research to define and fully understand the target consumers. The Consumer Insights Manager will also need to be very resourceful and be able to do more with less given that the initiative is a ‘start-up’ within a larger company. This individual must demonstrate a strong desire to work in a dynamic ‘start-up’ type environment with people that are equally passionate about building a new business from scratch. This position reports to the General Manager of the new initiative.
Summary of key responsibilities:
· Fully understand the consumer in the retail space
· Design & execute market research and interpret results
Create customer segmentation (beyond simple demographic segmentation)
· Define target audience(s)
· Understand target audience(s) key needs / desires and purchase behavior
· Design customer value propositions that attract new customers and build loyalty
· Provide input into marketing plan and branding strategy
· Assist with understanding competitive landscape and building market intelligence
Preferable Qualifications & Experience:
· The ideal candidate must be an expert in market research, consumer insights, and truly understanding consumers in the retail space
· Bachelor’s degree and MBA or advanced degree preferred
· 5+ years marketing research / consumer insights experience
· Experience driving both qualitative and quantitative market research (i.e. focus groups + conjoint analysis)
· Very analytical and possess a good knowledge of statistics
Keen understanding of the brick-and-mortar and online retail environments and their respective competitive landscapes
· Specific experience within resale market and/or automated retail space a big plus
· Start-up experience is a bonus
Demonstrated resourcefulness in getting things done
Additional personality traits include self-starter, entrepreneurial, team player, and enthusiasm for the retail industry
