Content Taxonomy Manager - New York

Description:
Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions is looking for an experienced Content Taxonomy Manager to guide the development of a comprehensive educational taxonomy. We're looking for someone who can recruit content experts, create work process flows, set and manage schedules, evaluate the impact of the taxonomy creation teams decisions, keeping all its content at an effective and consistent standard of granularity, spotting overlap and gaps.

We're looking for someone willing to take ownership of key areas, turn ambiguous goals into clear directions, mentor others, and have demonstrated success in their previous positions.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Deep immersion into the taxonomy design project, which has already begun. Partner with the taxonomy content creators to identify any overlap or gaps between domains and to ensure that the taxonomy is consistent and developed in a manner that will allow it to serve multiple functions over the years.
  • Partner with technology, business, and other key groups on the project to ensure that the taxonomy will serve their various needs.
  • Develop workflows and processes to ensure the efficient development of the remaining content needed for the taxonomy.
  • Provide methods and training for new and existing taxonomy content development staff.
  • Recruit experts to align content to the taxonomy and review alignments to ensure that they are consistent, thorough, and serve the project's needs.

Required:

  • 3+ years experience designing or overseeing the design of product and state standard neutral taxonomies
  • 5+ years experience in the educational publishing field, preferably in the test prep or assessment industries
  • 3+ years experience in technology related projects
  • 3+ years experience in working with print, online and multi-media content
  • 2+ years experience working with content management systems and technology based workflows
  • Experienced leader and role model comfortable working as an individual contributor and as a member of a team, across diverse organizations
  • Excellent conceptualization, analytical, and logic skills enabling comprehension and development of complex creative, technical and business issues, topics, and plans
  • Ability to manage short-, medium-, and long-term planning horizons concurrently
  • Ability to understand and relate content development, product technology, strategy and direction with business needs
  • Excellent communications skills, with the ability to work with business users as well as technical staff and content development staff.
  • Ability to mentor content specialists in development of taxonomies

  • Fluent in MS Excel, MS Word and relational database terminology

  • Minimum Masters Degree or Bachelors Degree and 5+ years relevant professional experience
