Job Summary

The Control Room Operator III at Dominion's Manchester Street Station will monitor and operate all major and auxiliary equipment and systems within a control room based operational system in a three generating unit natural gas and oil fired combined cycle station.

Responsibilities:
1) Perform all control room based operational procedures;
2) Perform equipment operator duties as required;
3) Maintain accurate and complete records;
4) Comply with all company safety and environmental regulations;
5) Perform tasks within the maintenance management system (repair orders, preventive maintenance, and lubrication routes);
6) Participate in the on-the-job training, initially as a trainee in the progression program, then as an OJT trainer for other personnel

The Control Room Operator works 12 hour rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime is frequent and expected.

This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement with BUW Council UWUA Local 310.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

1) At least three years power plant operating experience is required (prefer at least five years);
2) Prefer combined cycle gas turbine experience;
3) Prefer power plant control room/DCS experience;
4) Prefer steam turbine experience;
5) Must demonstrate ability in the following areas:
- Basic math, electricity, chemistry, and power plant physical sciences
- P & ID (Process & Instrumentation Diagram) knowledge
- Start-up, shut-down, emergency response procedures, electrical operations (phasing and loading), control room operations, waste water operations, technical troubleshooting, and oral & written communication skills.

Competency in these abilities is demonstrated through satisfactory completion of accredited courses, company courses, or equivalency exams.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate technical troubleshooting ability through interview hypothetical questions.

After training, must be on the Station lock out/tag out (LOTO) list.

Required physical abilities:
1) Ability to wear personal protective equipment;
2) Sufficient physical strength for operating manual valves (can lift up to 50 pounds independently). Sufficient physical endurance for repeated manual valve operation.
3) Cramped working conditions require flexibility, manual dexterity, and adequate hand-eye coordination.

Education

 Required:  Minimum of  High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred: Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (Mechanical or Marine Mechanical preferred).

Within one year of employment, the Control Room Operator III must hold a City of Providence Stationary Engineers License.

Preferred: Candidates who hold current Massachusetts 1st, 2nd or 3rd class Engineer's License.

Working Conditions

Working at heights on open grating surfaces; Occasional work on ladders, working in high noise and/or extreme temperature environments, working near high voltage and/or rapidly rotating equipment, and working in cramped and/or confined positions with heavy lifting.
Occasional work with toxic chemicals including but not limited to solvents, acids, and caustics.
Work is sometimes physical and in conditions where fumes, dust, and gases are present.
Working overtime (scheduled and call ins), being reachable by telephone and being willing to respond to around-the-clock plant issues.
Working rotating shifts.
