FINANCIAL CONTROLLER – JOB DESCRIPTION


This senior level position directs and coordinates all aspect of accounting operations and reports directly to the COO.  Controller functions as the chief accounting executive responsible for organizing, direction and controlling the work of the accounting personnel in collecting, summarizing and interpreting financial data for the use of management, creditors, investors and taxing authorities.   Controller directs budget and cost controls and accounting practices.  Controller supervises Assistant Controller who supervises accounting staff.  Controller is also responsible for IT department whose personnel are directly managed by the Assistant Controller.


As a member of the top management team, helps develop forecast for proposed project of the organization, measures actual performance against operating plans and standards and interprets the results of operations for all levels of management.


JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:


·        Leads and is responsible for the timely preparation and analysis of all financial reporting required by the corporation including timely, accurate and complete monthly financial statements


·        Analyzes and implements new accounting standards.  Responsible for the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures for the Company


·        Oversees and provides direction for the management of Company accounting systems, including design and implementation of related large accounting system software changes and conversions


·        Communicates significant changes and variances to corporate management


·        Assure that payables are paid in a timely manner


·        Assure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable


·        Assure that receivables are collected promptly to support healthy cash flow


·        Assure that Company remains “in trust” with vendors such as Toyota, Clark and Doosan


·        Assure that periodic and timely bank reconciliations are completed


·        Process payroll in an accurate and timely manner


·        Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions


·        Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures


·        Maintain the chart of accounts and an orderly accounting filing system


·        Manage outsourced functions such as auditors


·        Provide all assistance needed for the annual audit


·        Provide financial analyses as needed


·        Responsible for all risk management in the company including insurance protection


·        Responsible to assure that company acts in a manner to avoid fraud


·        Manage employees consistently with company’s policies, procedures and culture


·        Maintain excellent working relationships with all company personnel, customers and vendors


·        Work diligently to achieve company’s strategic and annual plans and objectives


·        Be innovative change agent to reduce expenses and enhance profitability


·        Undertake other duties as assigned or required


Desired Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration and 10+ years of progressively responsible experience for a company with annual sales of at least $20 million.  Preference will be given to candidates with the Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant or Masters in Business Administration – Accounting or Finance designation.


Must possess thorough knowledge of finance, accounting budgeting and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems. Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations. Expertise with advanced financial accounting software and software conversions. Extensive IT knowledge and experience


Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections. Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting including capital budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets and product-line profitability analyses.


Requires a professional team player with outstanding interpersonal skills.  Proven ability to successfully mentor and train.  Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight time frames and simultaneously manage several projects.


Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.  Must be professional, proactive, collaborative, and conscientious and a results-oriented individual.  Must have an optimistic and positive demeanor, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, good intuition and be able to adapt to changing priorities and display good, sound judgment on a consistent basis.


Superb organizational and analytical skills.  Must be creative and proactive yet disciplined, discriminating and able to streamline work volume in order to maintain bottom line efforts in midst of multi-tasking and daily re-prioritizing.  Must have ability to innovate, think strategically and conceptually, manage multiple projects simultaneously and handle difficult situations.
