Controls Lab Engineer

The Air Conditioning Systems and Services business of Ingersoll Rand provides heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems that enhance the quality and comfort of the air in homes and buildings around the world. Its offerings, under the Trane and American Standard Heating & Air Conditioning brands, include energy efficient systems, service and parts support and advanced building controls.

The Test Engineer will plan, develop, execute and document a wide variety of complex electronic validations for HVAC applications as well as Electronic Access Control products. The associate is responsible for collecting and understanding product requirements and engineering specifications, working with both internal and external development and reliability groups to develop a detailed Hardware validation plan and schedule to meet quality, schedule and cost of different NPD programs. The successful candidate will also require excellent communication skills and continuously improve the hardware process, tools and automation.

Major Responsibilities:
* Electronics validation planning, tools development, execution and reporting
- Determine test requirements from product requirements, schematics and other documentation
- Write test protocols, perform testing, and create test reports
- Create validation test plans for electronic controls
- Train employees on test procedures and processes
- Troubleshoot field returns and recommend corrective actions
- Test, verify, and troubleshoot analog and digital electronic circuits
- Participate in Engineering Design and schematic Reviews
- Support pre-production builds

* Developing test tools and processes
- Create schematics for electronic designs using CAD tools
- Assemble and prototype electronic circuits
- Layout printed circuit boards (PCBs)
- Mechanical Layout
- Work with software engineers to support test needs
- Design, implement and maintain Software Automated Test system (SwAT)
- Continuously develop new test tools and promote process improvement.

Percentage of Travel: 10%

Education / Experience:
Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering and 2 plus years experience in electronic design and validation, including different electrical, environment and reliability testing, such as Electrical Fast Transient, Surge/Lightning Discharge, ESD, ALT, HALT, Thermal Shock, Vibration

Key Competencies:
* Good understanding of product development processes and requirements
* Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
* Analog and digital electronic circuit design, testing, and troubleshooting
* Electronic circuit assembly and prototyping
* CAD experience: Schematic entry, PCB layout
* Project / Resource Management
* Must excel at working in a team environment
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially with overseas team members
* Working experience of variety of lab tools and Electronic prototyping tools is required
* Familiar with National Instrument products. Labview, Test Standard experience is preferred
