Corporate Claims Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

The successful management of all claims falling under the property and casualty worldwide risk management program.

Establishes the development and management of training programs devoted to reducing the frequency and severity of claims. Creates and maintains a liaison with field operations to ensure claims management and execution of early return to work programs as respects work-related injuries/workers’ compensation programs. Rolls out the training programs at a train-the-trainer level to HR field management responsible for execution of the early return to work and claim management programs. Manages and negotiates contracts with external vendors e.g., third-party claim administrators, defense counsel and medical provider networks. Ensures 3rd party vendors deliver high levels of customer services that result in improved performance and overall results.

  • Manage claim evaluation and resolution process on all workers’ compensation, automobile, general liability and property claims. Lead semi-annual claim reviews with all Third-Party Claim Administrators on open claims reserved at >$10,000 and include HR/LP field operations participation when appropriate. Daily claims management and settlement authorization of workers’ compensation, third-party and auto liability claims including litigated claims and management of defense counsel. Liaison field personnel with defense counsel when necessary and oversee corporate responses to discovery/document requests. Lead all claim evaluations, inclusive of litigation strategies, settlement valuation and appropriateness of reserves and communicate directly with insurers on any/all large loss claims. Manage and direct the TPA relationship, holding them accountable for delivery on program initiatives and demonstrating results.
  • Drive field responsibility to claims management processes and procedures to achieve the most favorable claims outcome possible. Use monthly/quarterly SBU specific reporting initiatives and related communications e.g., teleconferences or meetings during field corporate visits, to manage field execution as needed. Identify and evaluate additional opportunities to further reduce the severity and cost of casualty and property claims.
  • Lead and direct claims management process, driving execution of best practices and related initiatives to reduce cost of claims, affect claim closures and provide field education/awareness. Provide guidance and strategic input on claims management activities for workers’ compensation, automobile, general liability property and in-house third-party claims yielding positive results.
  • Monitor existing programs and make changes as appropriate. Responsible to write policies, practices, procedures and training modules for claim management programs. Communicate changes / enhancements to the field operators
  • Statutory working knowledge of workers compensation laws. Ongoing education to keep apprised of regulatory/legal changes that may affect and/or impact program(s) and effect change when necessary.
  • Partner with the Risk Manager to provide guidance and analysis to legal department and or corporate departments on contractual issues involving insurance coverage and related matters. Participate in contract negotiation conference calls and contract review meetings specific to insurance coverage concerns and risk transfer options e.g., indemnification clauses. Assist the Risk Manager in updating the insurance reference guidelines annually or as needed.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor Degree Required
  • Certificates/Licenses: Associate in Risk Management or Claim Management Designation
  • 8 to 10 years related work experience
  • Ability to evaluate settlement value of property and casualty claims. Requires interpretation of physicians’ medical reports and correlation of injury to work relationship. Third-party claims require ability to evaluate issues relative to negligence of involved parties, etc. Ability to communicate legal issues with defense counsel.

  • Computer literacy: TPA Claim Database, Global Risk Advantage or similar experience. Microsoft, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
