Clear Path to Plant Controller within Two Years

This $400M financially solid, profitable, privately held global manufacturing firm is based in eastern Wisconsin area and is a market leader in its spaces. We are top-grading its Cost Accounting department as it drives its lean manufacturing initiatives and automates manufacturing processes.

 

We are searching for someone with high drive and commitment to results who will be a very active member of the accounting and operations teams. You must be comfortable with getting out on the plant floor and working with the operations teams to identify areas for improvement and implementing appropriate changes. To be seriously considered for this role, you must be able to clearly demonstrate that you have the skills, drive and personality to be able to be promoted to the Plant Controller role of this $350M plant within two years. As the Cost Accounting Manager, you will 1) supervise and manage cost reporting, control and information systems, 2) manage and operate the standard product cost and variance reporting processes and systems in accordance to GAAP, and 3) provide leadership and supervision to the Senior Cost Accountant.

Position Responsibilities:

Primary duties:

§  Manage and coordinate the preparation of standard product costs including master file maintenance, building new standard manufacturing costs, and the fiscal update of product costs.

§  Serve as a resource person by maintaining a working knowledge of operations and cost systems and interact with management in an effort to provide proactive and team orientated cost information.

§  Provide training, controls and supervision in applying standards to daily production data. Audit production reports to ensure that reported information is accurate, standards applied are consistent with the standards used for product costing, and reported performance is complete, timely and accurate.

§  Coordinate the research and preparation of the annual manufacturing budgets.

§  Monitor the accuracy of individual standard product costs and assesses the impact of deviations from standard in the quoting process. 

§  Monitor the accuracy and controls for inventories and corresponding valuation systems.

§  Oversee physical inventory and provides assistance to auditor's in verification and testing inventory quantities and values.

§  Supervise the preparation of month-end purchase price variance, automated labor and overhead variance, cost recovered, performance and shrinkage reports.

§  Coordinate the financial closing of the standard cost system including updating of standards for the new fiscal. 

§  Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Company policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; ensuring adequate staffing, planning, assigning and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Secondary duties:

§  Maintain open communications with manufacturing management.

§  Perform variance analysis and problem resolution.

§  Assist with new systems development and implementation.

§  Maintain operating and procedure manuals for cost systems.

§  Prepare year-end audit work papers for all inventory and manufacturing related accounts.

§  Train and supervise cost personnel in the use of the company’s information systems.  Assist in maintaining the integrity of data in the company’s information systems.

§  Continually search for ways to improve processes or reduce costs.

§  Keep up to date and assess accounting trends by maintaining affiliations with successful companies who practice effective management, attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional associations.

§  Other duties as assigned.

 

Position Qualifications:

Knowledge/Experience:

§  Minimum 7 years cost accounting experience preferably in highly complex manufacturing environments.

§  Advanced knowledge of ERP manufacturing systems and Microsoft Access, Excel and Word.

§  Understanding and ability to apply GAAP.

Skills and Abilities:

§  Able to effectively lead and develop cost accounting function.

§  Ability to work effectively across all levels of organization.

§  Strong communication skills; uses skills to gather difficult but necessary information.

§  Strong problem solving and analytical ability; able to identify issues proactively.

§  High level of initiative and strong work ethic.

Education:

§  Bachelor’s Degree with Accounting Major required.

§  CPA or CMA certification preferred.
