Responsibilities
The primary role of Business Analyst is to research and document business requirements and design specifications for the bank's Risk Data Platform. Primarily focused on credit data used for financial disclosures, capital management and risk reporting, this individual will support the production and analysis of various data feeds containing limits, balances, risk measures, classification data, etc.
Ability to rapidly accumulate knowledge and develop subject matter expertise is essential. The Business Analyst will need to become familiar with all of the bank's credit accounting systems, partnering with source system experts to ensure that credit data is accurately sourced into the data warehouse and accurately extracted to meet business requirements. The successful candidate will document a knowledge base for the benefit of the organization so that both donor and requestor business partners see value in participating in the requirements and design process.
Strong analytical thinking is required. The business analyst will need to document requirements and high-level design specifications to serve as blueprints for handoff to developers. Work product is not merely conceptual, but must be designed using both descriptive business logic and sufficient technical specifications (such as table and field names) to ensure that developers have a clear road map for implementation.
A talent for validation and reconciliation is crucial. Solutions must be validated against the bank's data to ensure that they are accurate. Variances must be thoroughly researched and resolved.
Qualifications
A balance between business knowledge and technical skills.
Business knowledge must be supplemented with hands-on data analysis skills.
Database queries and other technical exercises must be designed based on a solid understanding of the relevant business concepts
Knowledge of financial instruments, especially credit exposures such as loans, leases and letters of credit
Comprehension of principles related to the computation of credit risk, including the calculation of on-balance and off-balance sheet exposures
Foundational knowledge in financial accounting
Experience with loan accounting systems and the use of data sourced from such applications
Demonstrated interpersonal skills including proven ability to work with all levels of management.
Required technical skills include advanced working knowledge of MS Access, intermediate to advanced SQL skills, intermediate knowledge of normalized relational databases, understanding of raw data files and formats.
Must be able to use SQL query tools such as TOAD or Aqua Data Studio.
Must understand remote database connectivity including ODBC and DB2 as well as related file transfer tools.
Ability to independently draft and code database queries based on business specifications.
