OCLC Online Computer Library Center, Inc. is a nonprofit, membership, computer library service and research organization dedicated to the public purposes of furthering access to the world's information and reducing information costs. Tens of thousands of libraries around the world use OCLC services to locate, acquire, catalog, lend and preserve library materials. We are currently seeking a Database Administrator at our Corporate Headquarters located in Dublin, Ohio.

 

The primary purpose of this job is to implement or modify existing DB2 databases (native or third-party), to provide backup and recovery capability, to work with developers and end users in accessing the databases, and to provide technical expertise for performance tuning, query management, version migration and physical design.  The person in this position will further be expected (from a DB2 perspective) to run a development effort - under the supervisory guidance of the Database Architect, Manager of EDM, or a Project Manager.  This job is necessary for corporate data to be available, accessible and secure. 

  • Implement new or modify existing database objects such as instances, databases, tables and indexes.
  • Establish and implement policies and procedures for database administration, backup and recovery.
  • Proactively monitor and tune database system performance; further ensure that all data is sound and secure.
  • Work with the Systems Division to install and test new versions of Database Managers and related software products.
  • Run a database development effort - under the supervisory guidance of the Database Architect or EDM Manager.
  • Provide resource requirement specifications for current databases and planned installations.

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline - or an equivalent academic/work experience combination.
  • 4+ years' professional experience; 2+ years of experience in database administration
  • Must be capable of independent thinking & have the ability to initiate action; further, must have working knowledge of basic operating systems use and organization.
  • Experience with DBMS's on multiple platforms and operating systems (i.e., Windows, AIX, Linux/SUSE, z/Os mainframe).
