DC Operations Manager

SUMMARY

 

Responsible for the direction, coordination and evaluation of a particular department within the Distribution Center.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

 

1.   Develops effective plans, objectives and goals to be carried out by the department.

2.   Organizes work in a systematic way, establishing clear lines of responsibility, delegates effectively.

3.   Initiates and maintains systems and processes to monitor and influence expenses, budgets and performance.

4.   Writes clearly and effectively at all levels.

5.   Listens attentively and responds in a sensitive and appropriate manner.

6.   Treats all associates with respect and dignity.

7.   Gains acceptance of ideas and accomplishes goals through supervisors, subordinates and peers.

8.   Selects, trains, coaches, disciplines, leads by example and develops associates and teams for peak performance.

10.  Keeps Confidences and acts in a professional manner at all times.

11.  Ensures All Safety rules and regulations are in compliance.

12.  Maintains excellent attendance.

13.  Responsible for managing and developing department budgets including payroll.

14.  Plan and schedule the workforce based on daily needs of the business. 

15.  Forecast, develop, and manage the workforce based on needs.

16.  Prioritize work and modify schedules to support daily business needs.

17.  Coordinate activities across departments for workforce needs

18.  Reporting and maintaining daily statistics.

19.  Monitor and adjust progress reports when necessary.

20.  Hiring and training of new associates within departments.

21. Mediate and document associate conflicts.

22.  Review performance of subordinates and counsel when necessary.

23.  Maintain levels of discipline to create and maintain a safe work environment.

24.  Conduct all department activities in a profession manner beyond reproach.

25.  Lead by example.

26. Develop and maintain standard operation procedures for departments.

27. Develop and coach subordinates through training and support.

28. Support company objectives.

29. Look for different methods for cost savings through strategic thinking.

30. Continue to establish productivity/performance goals and measurements while maintaining a safe 

     work environment.

31. Motivate and challenge department through goals.

32. Any other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Manages 1-4 subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 10-40 employees in the Shipping, Receiving, Orderfill, and DC Services departments.  Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

 

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY

 

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. Temperature of the Warehouse in summer and winter fluctuate with the outside temperature.  Typical warehouse dust and fumes including smell of propane generated by forklifts. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
