The purpose of this role is to lead a team of managers and financial analysts, plan, prioritize and design the workflow, and interface with a variety of internal stakeholders and providers in order to ensure the timely creation and maintenance of cash flow models and related quality controls to support Standard & Poor's commercial businesses, particularly structured finance/fixed income related commercial platforms that have been identified as one of four high priority investments within FIRMS. 
 
Incumbent will directly manage teams in Bethesda, Mumbai, Ho Chi Minh City and Hong Kong with possible expansion of teams in other locations and will interface with sales and data teams in New York, London, Mumbai and Melbourne. The geographic coverage of transactions includes North America, Europe, Middle East and Australia with possible expansion of coverage to include Asia, Africa and South America.   
 
Essential Accountabilities:
  • Manage the cash flow modeling operations to support S&P's commercial businesses. Lead a team of onshore and offshore managers and financial analysts in a high-achieving, mission-driven atmosphere that is conducive to learning continuously and performing efficiently in order to produce error-free models through headwinds such as changing business priorities, tight timelines and tough learning curves. Additionally, focus on efficiencies that lead to the shortening of the model creation-review-release cycle.            

  • Work with executives and managers in S&P's sales and commercial business units to understand their business targets, requests, priorities and requirements, and work with them to deliver high quality models within agreed upon timelines as well as provide complete feedback to these stakeholders when issues and questions arise.

  • Partner with executives and managers in S&P's data operations unit to understand their data process management challenges and accurately provide our data requirements, which includes extensive involvement in the design and testing of the data conversion processes required to have data extracted in a format that can be used by the modeling teams.     

  • Establish modeling and data standards for new asset classes and regions. This includes understanding the scope and variety of the new set of structured finance transactions, determining modeling conventions / assumptions, data gap analysis and data conversion processes, garnering / determining modeler and reviewer resources, organizing staff around new asset class modeling initiative, developing quality assurance tests and reviewing the initial set of deals.

  • Liaise with S&P's Commercial Products' platform group's Structured Finance Analytics team to develop modeling templates and arrange ongoing training for own team and new hires on knowledge of existing and new asset class structured finance transactions and available modeling tools in order to develop and improve analysts' modeling skills over time. 

  • Perform management related tasks such as communication to the leadership and the organization on the success, challenges and breakthroughs of the modeling teams, the staff's performance management, staff meetings, monitoring and recruiting. 

  • Evaluate the feasibility of leveraging internal and external modeling platforms for the growth of the general deal library for a supported commercial platform.

  • Occasionally, may review a structured finance transaction to meet an urgent business need that could not otherwise be met by a manager or reviewer-analyst staff.

  • Deep knowledge of a variety of structure finance transactions, including the modeling or structuring of such transactions.

  • Experience leading a team of individuals on major projects or transactions that have a large and positive business impact.

  • Experience understanding and resolving issues in cross-functional teams and with executives and managers at all levels in an organization.

  • Possess the ability to work with business and data units to prioritize business opportunities such as custom modeling requests. Manage & prioritize competing requests from disparate areas of the business.

  • Detail and quality oriented. Ability to work in global, multi-cultural environment.

  • Must have good operational skills as well as strategic understanding of business and product requirements.

  • Strong communication and mentoring skills.

  • College degree and MBA or CFA required. Significant relevant work experience (5 to 15 years).
