Northeast Utilities (“NU) seeks to hire a counsel/senior counsel for its state regulatory practice. In this role, the counsel provides legal support and advice to the NU Companies' regulated electric and natural gas businesses. In addition, a wide range of legal work is handled by this position including rate cases, energy contracts, utility operations, finance and accounting issues. The individual also supports and participates in regulatory proceedings before the Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control and the Connecticut Siting Council.
Northeast Utilities supports your success! We believe that you must possess the following background to be successful in this role:
· Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school;
· Minimum of 5 years of legal experience;
· Minimum of 3 years of state regulatory experience in the electric or natural gas industry (preferred); and,
· Strong finance, economics and/or accounting background.
Candidates should be admitted to the Connecticut Bar. However, candidates admitted to practice law in other states and in good standing in those states will be considered but will be required to gain admission in Connecticut within 1 year as a condition of employment. Relocation assistance may be available.
The selected individual must be able/willing to immediately assume independent responsibility for an active caseload; possess demonstrable experience providing business-oriented solutions to complex legal problems; be skilled in actively leading and/or partnering with both internal and external customers; and, possess strong written and spoken communication skills.
