LOCATION: 503 Fifth Avenue, 4th Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11215


HOURS: 35 Hours/Week; Exempt (1:30pm-9:30pm)


               


JOB SUMMARY:


The Learning to Work (LTW) program provides overage and under credited youth ages 17-21 with employment/internship readiness preparation, paid internships and post-internship support services.  The LTW Director manages the LTW programs at multiple Young Adult Borough Centers (YABCs) in Brooklyn, including supervision of staff, development and oversight of work readiness curricula and workshops, and creation of internship pathways for youth. This position calls for a high degree of collaboration with other GSS program directors and DOE staff.


 


MAJOR DUTIES:



  • Directly supervise LTW staff at Young Adult Borough Center (YABC) LTW sites (Career Development Facilitators, Youth Internship Coordinators, Activity Specialists and the Assistant Director); 

  • Participate in LTW preparation classes, seminars and other workshops/classes to observe staff and monitor application of curricula and program policies/procedures;

  • Meet regularly with staff to discuss curricula, program challenges and successes, mechanisms for evaluating the work, internship development, and further program development;

  • Work with Internship Coordinators to develop mechanisms for well-integrated employer participation and to generate ideas for new internship development;

  • Ensure achievement of DOE contract internship goals;

  • Work with YABC Directors to fully integrate LTW into YABC programming, including evaluating and developing recommendations for day-to-day operations and program services and developing staff to have cross functionalities;

  • Collaborate with Transfer School Directors and ACCESS GED Directors to share ideas on LTW best practices between transfer schools, ACCESS GED and YABCs;

  • Implement career development/job placement track for graduates of “multiple pathways” programs;

  • Represent agency at relevant external coalitions/meetings;

  • Work with Division Director to collect and analyze all required information on programs for reporting and evaluation purposes.

 


QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Master’s degree;

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in schools or programs serving at-risk adolescents, preferably in employment related program services;

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience directing program(s), including hiring and managing staff;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Ability to work with, manage and develop diverse staff;

  • Ability to balance program needs with funding contract requirements;

  • Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail required;

  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth development perspective;

  • Flexibility to work evenings (YABCs run 1:30-9:30pm) and travel among various schools throughout Brooklyn.
