Data Center Manager (DCM)  

Amazon.com is a fast paced technology company looking for a leader in the Washington DC area.

We are currently expanding our infrastructure management team and are looking for proven technology mangers with experience in people management, strong technical understanding and the drive and vision to take our Data Center Operations to the next level.   The successful candidate will be responsible for a cluster of Data Centers in the Washington DC region.  The role will include the operational management and support for the business unit, managing managers and SE's, working closely with Data Center engineering, AWS and Retail platform service owners, Infrastructure Engineering, Software Engineering, logistics coordination, and Asset Management.  This leadership role is a Sr. level position but also requires a deep technical understanding of servers/storage/network and applications.  This role will require leading more Sr. technical team members that may have alternate reporting relationships.  The ability to influence others and have a strong management background is essential. 

Some high-level responsibilities include: 

• Management of Data Center Systems and process; this includes all aspect of people/performance/rota management. 
• Manage/Improve the work-flows and through-put for data Centers Operations. 
• Be a subject master in Data Center Operations and systems HW support. 
• Ensure all operational KPIs and Metrics are being measured and met inside his/her Data Centers(s). 
• Play a key part in innovation and driving automation within Data Center Operations. 
  Be passionate about the quality and quantity of services being provided by the Data Center Operations team and continuously strive to improve our Customer Experience.  

Detailed technical requirements for the position can be found below. Candidates need not be experts in all of these, but at a minimum must be able to answer YES to  the following questions: 

Q. Can you articulate what is required to support and operate a Data Center? 
Q. Do you have prior people management experience with technical directs reports? 
Q. Do you have current knowledge of at least two of the following skills? 

• Mission Critical 24x7 application or technical support functions Server and Storage
• Hardware (troubleshooting). 
• Using & troubleshooting Linux or Unix. 
• Facilities engineering. 
• Technical Project Management
• For the successful candidate, this role provides excellent opportunities for advancement along either a technical management or project management track.  

Preferred Technical Requirements/Competencies: 

• Some understanding of Power, Cooling & Facilities Engineering inside a data center. 
• Knowledge of server hardware maintenance/troubleshooting across multiple server vendors. 
• Some experience of managing large scale disk sub-systems. 
• Experience of Linux or another Unix OS. 
• Some knowledge of Linux in a SAN/NAS Environments. 
• Experience with capacity planning, preferably at a server and data center level. 
• Experience with networking equipment in an enterprise environment.
