Data Center Operations - Systems & Hardware Engineer
Amazon Data Center Operations is looking to hire a Systems & Hardware Engineer.
The successful candidate will:
- Take diverse role of Field Engineer. Own, drive and contribute to technical innovation, automation and projects within the Data Center operations space.
- Be responsible for hardware and OS troubleshooting, automation, operational software design and development, data mining and processing
- Provide technical point of escalation and training for Data Center staff
- Create systems and process that enhance operational workflow and provide positive customer impact within the Data Centers.
Detailed technical requirements for the position can be found below. Candidates need not be experts in all of the below but at a minimum must be able to answer YES to all of the following 3 questions:
Q. Do you have good Linux/Unix skills?
Q. Do you have good server hardware knowledge?
Q. Can you program/script in Perl scripting? (or similar and willing to pick up Perl)
The ideal candidate would have strong experience with the operating systems & server hardware competencies and show the willingness and aptitude to quickly become skilled in the other competencies.
For the successful candidate, this role provides excellent opportunities for advancement along either a technical engineering or technical management track within Data Center Operations.
Detailed Technical Requirements/Competencies:
Server Hardware
- Excellent knowledge of server hardware maintenance/troubleshooting across multiple server vendors.
- Advanced knowledge of Linux in a SAN/NAS Environments.
- Detailed understanding and experience of managing large scale disk sub-systems.
- Experience with capacity planning, utilization review and performance monitoring.
Systems
- In depth knowledge & experience of Linux.
- Experience deploying or managing large scale distributed Linux environments.
- In depth Knowledge of Unix kernel architecture.
- Proficiency in scripting/programming with Perl (essential) and C, C++, Java, CGI and OO Environments (advantage).
- Apache, MySQL, Oracle, DNS, NFS, LDAP, security management, systems, applications troubleshooting skills.
Networking
- Experience with Cisco equipment in an enterprise environment.
- Some knowledge of dynamic routing protocols such as OSFP & BGP.
- Some knowledge of Cisco IOS.
