Job Description:
The Oracle DBA Consultant role falls within our Data Center Technology practice.
Key Responsibilities may include:
Define standards for the operating system (OS) and Oracle environment
Install Oracle software for OS and PC environments
Create new databases and table spaces
Install and manage SQL*Net configuration for UNIX and PC environments
Perform release upgrades for existing databases
Define and implement backup and recovery strategies in line with the needs of each client/project
Monitor system resource usage (disk, memory, CPU, IO) in conjunction with System Administrators group
For production as well as development and QA, monitor and tune SGA, etc.
System programming (Shell and SQL) to automate database backup, monitoring and other DBA functions
Define standards/guidelines for using roles, DB links, etc. in conjunction with project DBAs
Provide technical support during development process
Physical database design and layout - log files, datafiles, rollback segments, and tablespaces
Create project user accounts, grant appropriate privileges
Physical DBAs are responsible for the OS and Oracle environment, database backup & restore, database performance diagnostics and tuning for ALL databases. They work closely with the system admin group concerning system resource usage and allocation, system backups, and system performance.
100% travel requirement
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of hands on experience with Oracle versions 9i, 10g, or 11i
Minimum of 2 years of Oracle RAC, Dataguard, or VLDB (1TB+)
Minimum of a Bachelors Degree
Preferred Skills:
Experience installing Oracle database software.
Experience creating an Oracle database.
Basic DBA skills (i.e. SQL, security, tables/indexes, PL/SQL stored programs)
Familiarity with Oracle Architecture (memory structures like SGA and Shared Pool, processes, data files).
Knowledge of backup and recovery options (i.e. RMAN, cold/hot backups, export/import of data).
Experience with SQL performance tuning (trace files, TKPROF, explain plans, use of indexes).
Knowledge of database tuning techniques (sizing memory structures, memory/latch contention, I/O contention)
