Data Entry Supervisor

About the Job

MEDTOX Laboratories, located in St. Paul, is a drug testing and esoteric clinical laboratory with a focus on technology, quality and service to our clients. Established in 1983, MEDTOX is now the nation's third largest SAMHSA-certified drug testing laboratory. We are seeking a Production Supervisor interested in contributing to our rapidly growing organization.


 


The Production Supervisor oversees forensic data entry and manages workflow and shift coordination.


 


SCHEDULE: Tuesday - Saturday, 6:00 a.m. - finish


 


Primary Responsibilities:



  • Responsible for routine performance management tasks such as disciplinary actions, performance evaluations and time off authorizations with guidance from manager.

  • Perform duties of all roles being supervised as necessary (e.g. if short-staffed)

  • Process client samples, quality control samples and proficiency samples; adhere to the SOP and ensure that others are in adherence

  • Maintain equipment, clean, and perform scheduled and as needed maintenance procedures. Trouble shoot as needed and act as a point of escalation

  • Complete all documents accurately and neatly; monitor custody and control forms and chains of custody for completeness and acceptability

  • Train employees as needed

  • Monitor the receiving of test orders; evaluate test orders; organize work to maintain efficiency and acceptable turn-around-time; recognize unacceptable and unusual test orders and handle appropriately

  • Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules and expedite work flow

  • Work with manager to determine staffing needs of the department

  • Interact and coordinate with inter-dependent areas; maintain open communication between shifts and other sections of the laboratory regarding specimens and test requests

 


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience

  • Three to five years of related data entry experience

  • Previous experience acting in a lead/senior role

  • Basic to intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications

  • Demonstrated proficiency in and leadership aptitude for specific areas of responsibility

  • Minimum typing speed of 7,500 kph with at least 90% accuracy

 


Preferred Qualifications:



  • One to three years of previous supervisory experience

  • LIS experience

  • Production and /or lean manufacturing experience

 


Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills; able to work with other departments internally and clients externally, communicating in an effective and timely manner

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Able to multi-task; strong organization skills and attention to detail

 


Physical Demands/Working Conditions/Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, employees are exposed to normal hazards associated with chemical testing operations and handling of biological samples. Some employees are working near moving mechanical parts and are exposed to odors, fumes or airborne particles. Some employees are occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, blood borne pathogens, radiation, vibration and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. All employees are required to wear appropriate attire in the laboratory including lab coats, latex or nitrile gloves, and safety glasses when required by the task to do so. Safety precautions must be observed at all times to avoid injury to self or others.
