Data Replication Consultant - IBM Change Data Capture (CDC)

What will you be doing?
Our client, a large financial services firm, seeks to recruit and hire a Consultant for a 6 month contract position in Chicago, IL. This Consultant will work on a project to implement IBM's Change Data Capture Product (CDC) Replication on the Next Generation Network (NGN) in designated Network tiers. IBM's Change Data Capture product (CDC) has been selected as the new replication tool for the new Shared database environment. It will provide high availability capabilities for certain database farms as well as a heterogeneous data replication for some. IBM's Change Data Capture product (CDC) will depend on failover detection through the use of F5 load balancers also being deployed on the Next Generation Network (NGN). These technologies are new and have a naturally inherent risk of slow deployment or failure to deploy. This risk could be mitigated with the contracting of resources highly skilled with CDC and F5 technologies; which is why we need a consultant that is higthly skilled with CDC.

The majority of the effort is going to be spent on installing, configuring, testing, documenting, and certifying CDC functionality in each network tier on the Next Generation Network (NGN). Some of the duties and responsibilities are as follows:
  • Successfully install, configure, test, and deploy CDC for heterogeneous data replication capabilities using test databases out to and back from the Development/Testing, Corporate Stage, Customer Stage, Corporate Product, and Customer Product Network Tiers.
  • Certify the following replication scenarios work:
    • Oracle to Oracle
    • Oracle to DB2 LUW and DB2 LUW to Oracle
    • Oracle to Oracle Stress Test of LOBs
  • Successfully integrate with F5 Load Balancer technology for HA capability
  • Work with Network resource to configure F5 Load Balancers to detect database level, instance level, and server level failures and automatically route traffic over to failover blade in N + 1 server configuration.
  • Test all failover scenarios
  • Certify that once a failover condition has been created that automatic failback does not occur. This will always be a manual and schedule event.
  • Update and publish RunBook documentation.
  • Develop according to current RunBook standards.
  • Schedule session with Shared DB group.
  • Obtain written sign-off that all conditions of this step have been satisfied.
  • Produce RunBooks for each Network tier.
  • Obtain signoff that the following has been satisfactorily completed:
  • Heterogeneous data replication works on all Network tiers.
  • Failover data replication works on all Network tiers.
  • RunBooks have been produced and reviewed with Operations.
  • Turnover to Operations to support CDC.
  • Access to Shared DB servers in each Network tier.

What will you need?
The successful candidate will have the following minimum required experience:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Significant experience with IBM's Change Data Capture product (CDC)
  • Significant experience with F5 Load Balancers
  • Experience with replication from the following:
    • Oracle to Oracle
    • Oracle to DB2 LUW and DB2 LUW to Oracle
    • Oracle to Oracle Stress Test of LOBs
  • Good communication skills.
  • Technically savvy.
