The Database Administrator will be responsible for designing, creating, maintaining and administering databases and related technologies within the development, testing and production environments. He/she will also ensure continued availability and performance of Elsevier’s databases and related technologies, while ensuring existing standards and best practices are adhered to and applied.
The Database Administrator will also:
§ Support the development of new products and re-development of existing ones
§ Serve as a partner to the development team by ensuring best practices related to maintenance and management of databases are followed
§ Maintain all databases and related technologies to provide the best practical service to all our customers
§ Proactively monitor and tune databases to ensure maximum performance
§ Provide database and related technologies support for the backup and recovery functions
§ Provide support and advice to the development teams specifically related to the design, specification and creation of databases, modules and associated items
§ Provide consulting services to the business, contractors and vendors for all database issues, such as: user interfaces, data access, database logical/physical modeling/design, security management, and selection/acquisition of new database related tools
§ Participate in the production and maintenance of documentation for all databases and related technologies in accord with departmental standards
§ Review and recommend enhancements to systems and procedures
§ Keep abreast of relevant emerging technologies
§ Translate technical expertise into business benefits
§ Write scripts and procedures, create environments and refactor code/scripts
§ Conduct unit and integration testing
Qualifications
§ 5+ years of relevant work experience
§ Strong design skills, ideal candidate should bring strong conceptual ideas to help in re-architecting database structures
§ Solid ground with current best practices
§ Working knowledge of SQL Server, Oracle, and .NET technologies
§ Ability to manage and maintain databases
Education
Associate degree, Bachelor degree or technical institute degree/certificate or equivalent work experience
Travel Required
§ 5%-10% Aprox.
