POSITION SUMMARY:
The Database Administrator (DBA) will assist in the day-to-day administration, support and ongoing enhancement of Menard, Inc’s database infrastructures. Applicants will be responsible for supporting mission-critical database environments maximizing system uptime and productivity. Candidates must be able to work in a secure, mission-critical production-computing environment. The position will be responsible for helping to ensure the day-to-day health of the enterprise database systems.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Database Support:
· Configuration and implementation of DB Clusters and/or standby/clone databases
· Creation and maintenance of database instances
· Managing logical and physical database structures
· Monitoring database activities, checking for tablespace availability, checking the alert log file for errors and monitoring the hit ratios
· Application query tuning on all modules using standard DB specific tools
· Tuning for I/O contention, memory contention, row migration, block contentions, etc.
· Provide database support during application crashes and system downs
· Planning and performing backup & recovery procedures
· Creating user and security management
· Monitor unauthorized user access and take preventative actions
· Configuration/Troubleshooting of DB access setup
· SQL tuning, monitoring performance issues and setting up coding standards
· Ensure that the Menard, Inc.’s databases are available 24 hours a day for performing normal business functions
· Create proactive monitoring processes and preventative action plans to avoid system outages
· Database capacity planning and sizing
· Documentation of every aspect of DBMS including hardware configuration and maintenance records
· Ensure Service Level Agreements are met
*Application Development:
· Provide database support during application development
· Load database software after installation of new hardware or software
· Test newly installed databases in conjunction with application software
· Test newly installed databases for optimal performance
· Provide database support and monitoring during data warehousing projects
*Training:
· Provide database support during application development and provide expertise to support and train IS Development and Operations staff on database and data warehouse issues
* Production Issues:
· Identify problem trends pro-actively
· Develop and execute action plans
· Follow established process for problem handling or resolution
Other:
· Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science or MIS related field
OR
Equivalent work experience
· Experience with MySQL, Oracle, and MSSQL a plus
· Object-oriented analysis and design skills
· Good verbal and written communication skills
· Good analytical skills for problem determination and resolution
· Ability to remain calm and courteous in demanding situations
· Ability to manage multiple priorities
· Ability to work independently, as well as, cooperate with others
