The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the creation and management of databases used to provide effective and efficient access to information.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Provides administration of existing enterprise databases (including CRM) and analysis, design, and creation of new databases
Monitors performance and manages parameters to provide fast query responses to front end users
Controls access permissions and privileges
Ensures that storage, archive, backup and recovery procedures are functioning correctly.
Manages capacity planning needs
Works closely with the Technology Department Directors and Managers to complete projects
Communicates regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security
Provides 24/7 support for critical situations
Develops reports for management and users in a variety of formats, including charts and graphs
Creates databases to replace and consolidate data housed in spreadsheets
Scrubs data to ensure integrity prior to import or export
Manages the import and export of data
Assesses and implements off-the-shelf and open source tools and/or builds applications to allow for proper storage, organization and management of data
Ensures optimized performance of CRM database and other custom built or purchased application databases
Manages planning, designing, and implementation of databases
Maintains and upgrades database systems
Trains employees and management personnel in database use
Stays abreast of changing technologies and design techniques
Identifies user data management, storage and reporting requirements
Implements and controls security procedures to protect the database from accidental or intentional damage or loss
Performs other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Minimum of three to five years experience in SQL database management
Bachelors degree in computer science or other related course of study
Microsoft Certified Database Administrator certificate (MCDBA)
Experience using SQL Server required
XML, Web Services and Scribe experience preferred
Ability to work in a fast paced and high volume environment
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality with highly sensitive information, some of which is personally identifiable information (PII)
Strong attention to detail
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to multi-task and to balance multiple projects at once with frequent interruptions
Ability to function effectively and efficiently in a deadline-oriented environment
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Software Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and Access
Must successfully pass government mandated background check for this position, which is classified as a position requiring public trust
