OVERVIEW
The Database Administrator position is responsible for the maintenance, support, and optimization of databases in test and production environments and developing solutions to meet strategic business needs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Configuring the Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) for optimum performance.
· Working with software developers to ensure that databases meet software specifications
· Working with storage administrators to ensure that the database has appropriate SAN volume configuration
· Working with virtualization administrators to ensure that the database servers have appropriate resources for high performance and high availability
· Document database designs and maintenance plans
· Proactively monitoring of databases for optimum performance and capacity constraints
· Capacity planning to ensure that adequate resources are available to accommodate database growth
· Controlling access permissions and privileges
· Testing new versions and planning upgrades
· Installing service packs and patches
· Troubleshooting issues
· Backup and recovery
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, and SKILLS REQUIRED
· Minimum of five years as a DBA administering large, mission critical databases.
· Expert level knowledge of the SQL language as it relates to database administration.
· Expert level knowledge of RDBMS performance monitoring tools such as profiler and perfmon
· Understanding of SAN storage as it relates to RDBMS performance and reliability.
