Database Administrator

About the Job


The Database Administrator must be a team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills and advanced technical skill. This position will interact extensively with a number of development teams in an advisory capacity for planning and in a technical capacity to complete implementations /tasks or troubleshoot issues. A positive attitude, patience, and a good customer-service orientation are essential.


The Database Administrator will be responsible for the following:


Participate in the design, development, and implementation of new databases or modifications to existing systems.


Install and configure SQL Server and related components (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, etc.)


Estimate required disk space.


Design physical and logical databases (data types, indexing, and table design). Maintain database security.


Develop scripts to load databases.


Coordinate and complete data uploads from districts or other department source systems using ETL and SSIS or other tools, as required.


Develop and deploy reports in SSRS.


Develop and update database views and T-SQL.


Create and modify database structures and objects.


Create stored procedure, triggers, and other database level constraints.


Create and maintain user accounts.


Assist development teams with data, business intelligence, report, and application promotions from one environment to the next (e.g. Development to Test).


Monitor logs, systems, servers, and applications to verify performance and space usage.


Complete routine backup processes, and restore if needed. Create disaster recovery strategies.


Optimize, tune, and complete maintenance activities.


Apply service packs, hot fixes, and version upgrades to maintain performance and security.


Troubleshoot issues with tools, packages, queries, reports, and cubes.


Schedule and manage jobs on SQL Server.


Research new tools, features, fixes or other topics to resolve issues and improve performance.


Maintain accurate documentation of systems at all times.
