Database Administrator - SQL Server and DB2 DBA Washington, DC 20005
SRA is has an exciting opportunity for a Database Administrator (DBA) to work across multiple technologies including SQL Server, Oracle, and DB2. Our client is working on a several year initiative to convert their existing DB2 UDB and Oracle servers over to SQL Server 2008. This position requires the ability to multi-task and be flexible is key in order to interact with various teams and the client on a variety of database administration responsibilities. This DBA will support one of our government clients and serve as part of the IT division, which is responsible for providing database systems analysis, design, development, administration, implementation and support. This position is for full time employment and will be based at our client's office in downtown DC (Union Station). Key Responsibilities of the DBA include: Serve as the sole DBA working within a dynamic IT team of 28 SRA employees and interacting directly with client staff as well as other vendors. Assist with 2 large projects: replicating data from DB2 servers to SQL Server 2008 using Vision's Replicate One tool; and converting from Oracle and DB2 Servers to SQL Server. Provides technical consulting in the definition, design, and creation of a database environment. Develops applications to help solve database solutions to business problems; data architectures; database management system facilities and capabilities; and the operation and tuning of databases. Designs, implements, and maintains databases with respect to access methods; access time; batch processes; device allocation; validation checks; organization; protection and security; documentation; and statistical methods. Assists, defines, and/or oversees database organizations, standards, controls, procedures, and documentation. Maintains database dictionaries and integrates systems through database design. Assigns passwords and monitors use of resources. Responsible for systems recovery mechanisms. Maintains and documents shell scripts and batch processes. Ensures that documentation is complete and up-to-date. Develops and applies procedures for periodic database backup. Required Skills and Experience: Requires strong and recent experience as a DBA for SQL Server - SQL server 2008 experience is ideal. Also requires some experience with DB2 UDB or Oracle database administration. Requires US Citizenship and ability to pass a criminal background check to obtain agency specific clearance
